A $100,000 audio-animatronic inspired by the Jurassic World franchise has been reported as stolen, leaving millions of fans confused.

Since its first movie premiere in 1993, Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park franchise has gained a massive fanbase worldwide. It has only grown more significant with new generations since the debut of the sequel franchise Jurassic World.

Unfortunately, a massive dinosaur audio-animatronic, valued at nearly $100,000, has been stolen, affecting thousands of experiences and leaving millions of fans with more questions than answers.

“News about thieving and robberies are regrettably the bread and butter in Mexico City, but have you ever heard of a dinosaur being stolen?” Mexican journal El Financiero wrote when reporting the shameful incident. “Believe it or not, this actually happened at the Perisur shopping center in Coyoacán.”

Sadly, just over a month after its grand opening, several social media posts exposed the $100,000 heist of a massive pterodactyl audio-animatronic, a one-of-its-kind piece in the exhibition.

TikTok user @0smarus detailed that it took eight years for the world-class exhibition to visit Mexico, adding that the theft is “why we can’t have nice things,” referring to the Mexican people. You can see the video below or click here to watch it.

Journalist Antonio Nieto (@siete_letras) reported the incident on X (formerly known as Twitter), detailing that the missing audio-animatronic is a pterodactyl inspired by the Jurassic World franchise, valued at nearly $100,000 and is a one-of-a-kind piece.

Paraphrasing the famous quote by Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Ian Malcom, Thieves, uh… find a way, apparently.

Nobody knows how they got it out. The person in charge of security stated that it was a unique piece. The crime has been reported to authorities.

El Financiero mentioned that local authorities have been involved and are investigating the theft, which reportedly occurred between July 17 and 18 in the shopping center.

The outrageous theft will undoubtedly affect the experience of thousands of guests visiting Jurassic World: The Exhibition in Mexico City. However, according to El Financiero, the exhibition will remain open daily through its final date, September 29, 2024.
