Marvel fans and Disney Parks fans alike have been anxiously awaiting the official opening date of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster, which is now in its fourth year of construction.
The permit’s end date is August 10, 2023, which is extremely interesting. While the end date on any permit does not indicate for sure that is when construction will finish, the fact that this permit allows work to be done well into 2023 certainly indicates that Walt Disney Imagineering does not anticipate that the thrill ride will open anytime soon.
Currently, as seen above, there are still construction walls surrounding the ride and its show building. As the recently filed permit proves, however, work on the highly-anticipated Marvel-themed coaster is ongoing on a regular basis.
Disney Parks Blog previously described the Marvel Studios-inspired ride as:
In World Discovery, stories about science, technology and intergalactic adventure come to life.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at Epcot. The adventure starts in the “Galaxarium,” a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. You will be invited to learn more about the treasures Xandar has to share – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue. The attraction will feature a new innovation from Walt Disney Imagineering – a storytelling coaster that rotates 360 degrees to focus your attention on the action, including the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster.
