If you’ve followed Walt Disney World Resort news at all during the COVID-19 pandemic, you probably know that the Space 220 restaurant is one of the theme park’s most highly anticipated projects.
Now, the new EPCOT dining establishment finally has a definite opening timeline! Space 220 will begin welcoming Guests next month in September, just in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort.
According to Disney Parks Blog’s official update regarding the opening:
Are you ready for an out-of-this-world dining experience at EPCOT? Then prepare for liftoff, because Space 220 restaurant at EPCOT is scheduled to begin service in mid-September… another milestone in the transformation of EPCOT underway at Walt Disney World Resort.
Although the full menu has not yet been unveiled, Disney Parks Blog noted that there will be “a two-course prix fixe menu for lunch, and a three-course prix fixe menu for dinner. The upscale, contemporary fare will bring new meaning to “the height of dining!”
Imagineer Zach Riddley also shared details about the new experience on his official Instagram page:
Today we’re sharing new information about Space 220 as we prepare for liftoff in mid-September!
Beginning with a trip in the first-ever space elevator, travel 220 miles above the Earth at this new restaurant that fits perfectly in our EPCOT story!
This immersive experience brings you to the Centauri Space Station, where you can take a virtual look at the planet from above while you dine.
Space 220 is a perfect addition to EPCOT continuing our legacy of original storytelling – fantastical experiences rooted in real science and designed with a range of world-class experts that makes you wonder “how’d they do that?!”
One of my first experiences as a kid was experiencing the Hydrolators – those magical conveyances in The Living Seas Pavilion that took you down to Sea Base Alpha. That experience moved me (quite literally) and sparked this magic of possibility we talk about with EPCOT. This space elevator experience is our generation’s entry into this rich legacy of inspiration that will define the future of EPCOT and a perfect addition to World Discovery!
At this time, reservations for the restaurant are not yet open to the public, and an official opening date in September has not been confirmed.
Space 220 will provide Disney World Guests with an immersive experience as if they are truly dining among the stars. The official description for the restaurant, which can be found in EPCOT’s reimagined Future World area, reads:
A Stellar Adventure
Embark on the ultimate culinary exploration from this new expansion of the Mission: SPACE pavilion.
Step inside Space 220—a celestial panorama of a space station—for a delicious meal! As you dine, peer out and enjoy amazing daytime and nighttime views of Earth from 220 miles up.
Going Up and Dining Out
To begin your journey, board a special space elevator that will ascend to the stars! Along the way, viewports will give you an aerial view of Epcot as you travel high above the planet.
Upon your arrival, you will dine from a menu featuring modern American cuisine, more than 1,000 bottles of the world’s finest wines and a wide selection of craft beer.
We can’t wait to dine at this interstellar spot for the first time! Inside the Magic will share more information — including the exact opening date of Space 220 and when reservations will be available — as soon as it is released.
