Loki is just over three weeks away from its Wednesday, June 9 premiere date and promos are coming at Marvel fans from all sides. And one TV spot is making the rounds a few days ahead of schedule, and it has Loki fans on Twitter aflutter as actor Tom Hiddleston finally gets in on the shirtless action.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is proving that Disney+ is the place to be for MCU fans with its latest slate of superhero shows WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It was first announced back during Disney’s investor day and fans have been impatiently waiting for it ever since.
Marvel’s official description of the Loki series says:
In Marvel Studios’ “Loki,” the mercurial villain Loki (Tom Hiddleston) resumes his role as the God of Mischief in a new series that takes place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” Kate Herron directs and Michael Waldron is head writer.
The series will follow a variant of the fan-favorite trickster as he is recruited by Owen Wilson’s character, Agent Morbius, and the Time Variance Authority (TVA). And while those “space lizards” want Loki to help fix the Marvel timeline that was changed when he escaped with the Space Stone/ Tesseract during the events of Avengers (2012), the Frost Giant Prince is surely up to his usual manipulative tricks and will most likely alter the timeline further by manipulating historical events.
Fans will remember that this version of the God of Mischief is not the same one that was redeemed in Thor: Ragnarok (2018) by trying to help save Asgard. That Loki was killed by Thanos at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War (2018). This trickster god is coming off trying to take over the Earth and being beaten by the Avengers. The quintessential shapeshifter may even take on new forms like Lady Loki or Young Loki/Kid Loki, who may become a Young Avenger.
This latest Loki trailer appears to have aired on Disney-owned ABC, but will hopefully be released sometime later this week on Marvel’s official channel in high definition. It does not offer much in the way of new footage, but it gives us a better look at the Null-Time Zone and another variant being eliminated from the timeline, as well as our best look at the TVA’s mascot Miss Minutes — and, it has Loki fans taking over Twitter because of a moment when Golden Globe-winning actor Tom Hiddleston appears shirtless.
Sarah Wingo on Twitter had this response to Loki shirtless:
“Everybody say: THANK YOU MARVEL!”

The hashtag #ShirtlessLoki was previously trending back when Ragnarok was filming as Marvel fans begged direct Taika Waititi to let the Asgardian God of Mischief go topless. Their dreams were denied then but Loki director Kate Herron has finally granted their wish.
And in reference to the reports based on an interview with Herron that Loki will feature a reference to the Teletubbies user Jules quipped:
“Marvel gave us loki’s tiddies as an apology for the Teletubbies”

What the reference to the Teletubbies might be, has yet to be revealed. We haven’t seen hide nor hair of the children’s cartoon in any Loki trailer so far. What we know of the series is that it will be the next chapter of Marvel’s Phase 4. Following up on the success of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which introduced fans to our new Captain America – Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), Loki is sure to be exactly what fans need while they count down the days for Black Widow‘s theatrical release on July 9, 2021.
Marvel Studios has a history of featuring their burly men topless which Twitter user Liho gladly seems to be collecting, adding:
“Another fine addition to my collection”

Though her collection leaves out many times that Loki’s brother Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe partially unclothed. In fact, the moment in the latest Loki trailer is very reminiscent of a moment in Thor: Ragnarok where the other son of Odin was tied down and had his hair forcibly cut, by non-other than Stan Lee.
The moment where the TVA strips Loki feels like karma since Loki allowed Thor’s hair to be cut by not acknowledging him. The overall Twitter reaction is best summed up by Or_downey_jr_hiddleston with:
“Shirtless Loki. That’s it”

Thor’s brother is set to return in the Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (March 25, 2022) and hopefully, Loki will be the first of these new TV shows that Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige will announce a second season for.
The Marvel Universe is using its new streaming service, Disney+ to take more chances with the type of stories they can tell in the MCU. With a TV show, the characters can take time to develop and grow more organically. The whole theme of Phase 4 is expanding the Marvel universe into alternate timelines and realities. Marvel’s Loki is laying the groundwork for everything that is coming after it.
Tom Hiddleston will be joined by cast members Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Richard E. Grant, and Sophia Di Martino (rumored to be portraying the Lady Loki version of the trickster god from Marvel Comics). With an alternate character to what we’ve seen before, fans can expect to get a closer look at Loki’s ability to transform into other people.
