Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure have both remained closed due to the pandemic. Ever since the theme parks shut their gates last March, Guests have been eager to find out any information regarding when they can once again get the Disneyland experience.

And yesterday, that day finally came. In case you missed it, it was a big day for California and the major theme parks located within the state as the theme parks in California, including Disneyland Resort and Universal Hollywood, received some positive reopening news.

All California theme parks, no matter the size, are now allowed to reopen in the red tier (tier 2) at a 15% limited capacity. Additionally, the theme parks can only host California residents only, no out-of-state Guests are allowed.

It is worth noting that detailed guidelines and reopening strategies specific to each theme park are forthcoming and will be announced in the coming days and weeks.

Disneyland Resort is located within Orange County and could actually reach the red tier soon, meaning both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure could technically reopen in just weeks!

Though this is exciting news for California, it seems that Disneyland fans are a bit surprised at the guidelines Disney and other major theme parks must follow, including a 15% capacity and the fact that Disneyland will only be open to Californians to start.

Inside the Magic fan, Erin T., shared “Wow! Only California residents and 15% capacity” while ITM Facebook fan, Kelly B. added “California residents only. Don’t get too excited everyone.”

Kimberly C., doesn’t think Disneyland will open until they can open at a higher capacity due to finances, writing “We have to be in a certain tier and is Disney really going to open for only 15% capacity? You have to factor in staff, they won’t open unless they make money.”

On the other hand, there are some fans who are really excited about this news, including Bob B. who writes, “It’s about time!!!” Jodi M. shared her excitement for Californians, writing “So happy for you guys. Stay safe.”

And Andrew M., shared his thoughts in one simple word — “FINALLY”.

Twitter user Steve K., replied to our Tweet sharing his excitement for Cast Members, writing “As a CA resident, I’m happy & excited for myself. But I am more happy for the thousands of Disney park employees who will get a very nice letter in a few days inviting them back to employment!”

At this time, Downtown Disney District, and by extension portions of Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure, are open to Guests for select outdoor dining and shopping. And in just a few weeks, Disney California Adventure will be opening up more of its theme park as they will host an event titled A Touch of Disney.

A Touch of Disney will bring Guests a selection of iconic food and beverage items from both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure as well as possibly seeing Mickey and the gang from a safe social distance!
