Walt Disney World Resort recently announced details of the theme park’s 50th anniversary celebration, which will begin on October 1, 2021. The event will last a full 18 months and carry into 2023, but what this reporter is wondering is: Will we get to see a new nighttime show debut as part of the celebrations?
EPCOT has already announced that Spaceship Earth have an entirely new, permanent lighting package that will dazzle Guests. Furthermore, in the World Showcase, Disney is set to release what they have deemed to be the biggest nighttime spectacular yet, HarmonioUS. That being said, we have yet to receive an opening date on the show from Disney.
At the moment, no nighttime shows — with the exception of the Electrical Water Pageant — are running at any Disney Park due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, with vaccinations rolling out worldwide, and HarmonioUS having viewing areas around the entire World Showcase lagoon to allow for social distancing, an October 1 debut does seem both safe and possible.
Now that the 50th anniversary celebration has been officially announced with a timeline, it seems that EPCOT is really kicking the construction and prep for HarmonioUS into gear. As of today, a new construction barge can be seen in the World Showcase Lagoon.
Disney was also testing the arms on the barges today, which, according to what we have seen in the Epcot Experience showroom, will act as a light beam projector. Next to that barge also sits a second construction barge, which has seemingly been added to the lagoon so that more work can be done to the show barges.
HarmonioUS has been described by Disney as:
“Harmonious” is one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created for a Disney Park. The show is a beautifully crafted dreamscape of Disney music and images, reimagined by diverse cultural musicians and artists from around the world. It’s a transformative experience, where we can discover how Disney music has the power to inspire and unite us all with the magic of possibility.
As we have previously reported, EPCOT not only has a new show incoming, but new lands and attractions. EPCOT’s entrance is riddled in construction walls as Future World gets a big makeover. However, the World Showcase does not have too much construction ongoing. One project that is under construction, but almost complete, is the France Pavilion expansion! This expansion will of course include an all-new attraction, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, which will be the main hub of the expansion. You can read more about that and see photos here!
Do you think that HarmonioUS will open for October 1, 2021, to ring in the 50th anniversary celebrations at the Walt Disney World Resort?
