A Jurassic Park reboot based on the two original Michael Crichton could be happening.

With other major franchises like Harry Potter getting a television reboot, it may only be a matter of time before Steven Spielberg’s 1993 blockbuster is “cloned” for the smaller screen.

The latest film, Jurassic World Dominion (2022) grossed over $1 billion worldwide, but it failed to impress audiences and critics, leaving many doubtful about the future of Jurassic.

The upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) might have Marvel Cinematic Universe legend Scarlett Johansson in the lead role, but the official trailer didn’t exactly “break the Internet”.

Nevertheless, with Rebirth coming up, three games in development, and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 3 heading to Netflix, the future of Jurassic looks bigger than ever.

However, while the franchise continues to expand with new films, video games, television shows, and more, a Jurassic Park reboot may not be entirely out of the question.

A live-action television series would be new territory for Jurassic Park. One such project is now rumored to be in development, although it’s unlikely to be an adaptation of the book.

With that said, no one could have predicted that Warner Bros. would actually reboot the Harry Potter films with a seven-season-long television series, yet here we are.

The Harry Potter television series is said to be a more “faithful adaptation” of the books by JK Rowling (casting announcements are currently dominating headlines as of late).

So, could Jurassic Park follow a similar path and follow “Jurassic Park” (1990) and “The Lost World” (1995) more closely, with a continuity completely separate to the films?

Should this happen, there’s a chance a Jurassic Park television series would be R-rated, as the books are very graphic, and more geared towards a mature audience than the films are.

There are also enough differences between Jurassic Park and The Lost World and the source material for a television series to feel like a completely different “animal” entirely.

Here’s to hoping fans will one day be able to sink their teeth into a Jurassic Park television series that’s based more closely on Crichton’s work. However, it should be noted that Universal Pictures hasn’t confirmed or even remotely hinted at any such project.
