The characters at Disneyland and the Walt Disney World Resort are part of the whole immersive experience, and they’ve delighted both kids and adults since the gates first opened, but sometimes things can get a little too real behind those costumes.

Any Disney fan worth their salt knows it’s practically sacrilegious to go to the Magic Kingdom and not get a hug from Mickey Mouse. However, interactions with Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and the rest of their animated entourage aren’t the only experiences guests can have, especially during this time of year.

Disney just kicked off the Oogie Boogie bash at Disney’s California Adventure, and some of the studio’s most iconic villains have come out to play. The Walt Disney Company has spared no expense on the details, but some stunts are proving to be quite dangerous.

The Disneyland Halloween celebration recently welcomed both Hades and Dr. Doofenshmirtz onto the guest list. While the latter might be frightening some Disney park guests with his freaky face, a returning fan favorite is traumatizing guests of all ages yet again.

Last year, Disney incorporated the infamous Judge Doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988), a decision that still haunts several Disney guests to this day. For those who have not seen the film, the character comes with a heartless and lethal reputation.

Played by Christopher Lloyd, Judge Doom is the film’s dark and mysterious villain, obsessed with eliminating all cartoon characters, Doom uses a toxic substance called “Dip” to dissolve them. Disney showed this in graphic detail in the original film as Doom dunks a squeaking, shrieking animated shoe into a bubbling vat of Dip, but then recreated in a demonstration for Oogie Boogie Bash.

As this scene traumatized many millennials years ago, Disney is repeating the process at the parks by having Doom as a Meet-and-Greet character. And yes, he does the exact same insidious act in front of a live audience.

Not only has Disney brought him and his vat of Dip back for another round, but recent footage from @sergiosdadjokes (seen below) shows that guests are lining up to see him demonstrate it again. The judge is only too happy to oblige.

Seeing a literal murder committed on stage is something we expect from Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios, not from the House of Mouse. However, Disney both shocked and surprised us with this year’s display of cold justice.

Although the company and studio have recently been criticized for being too soft or PC, getting this back on stage took some serious guts. As demonstrated by the footage above, some Disney fans clearly have an appetite for carnage, and the judge is only too happy to satisfy that hunger.

That all being said, the scene of Judge Doom dipping the shoe positively horrified many viewers when the film first came out. Seeing it brought to life on stage has this longtime Disney fan growing concerned for both the studio’s image and its current audience.
