It’s no mystery that several Star Wars projects are currently in development. There’s Skeleton Crew (2023), The Mandalorian Season 3, Andor Season 2, and The Bad Batch Season 3, to name a few. And that’s just Disney+ — earlier this year at the Star Wars Celebration (May the 4th), three upcoming theatrical movies were announced.

One is a Mando-Verse film that’s expected to hit theaters, with Ahsoka (2023) creator Dave Filoni attached as director. The film is expected to culminate events established in The Mandalorian (2019), The Book of Boba Fett (2021), and Ahsoka and will unite characters from all three shows in an epic crossover event.

The second movie is from director James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), which will explore the origins of the Force and the “Dawn of the Jedi.” Mangold has described the project as a “Biblical epic.”

The third movie is the most surprising. Despite the fact that the Sequel Trilogy remains widely hated, after Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi (2017) and Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker (2019) divided fans due to poor storytelling and weak character development, a new Sequel-era film is in the works.

Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will helm the new film, which is set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker and finds “powerful Jedi master” Rey Skywalker (Daisy Ridley) trying to rebuild the Jedi Order while training new hopefuls in the ways of the Force.

Assuming none of the other films release before it, the untitled Sequel-era film will be the tenth film in the main saga, following Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope (1977), Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi (1983), Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace (1999), Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones (2002), Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith (2005), Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.

Nothing else is known about the project, including the official synopsis and other returning actors from previous films.

However, according to some Reddit users (via YouTuber Star Wars Meg), the title of the upcoming Sequel-era film may have already been revealed. Before we go any further, though, this is best taken with a big pinch of salt.

Relaying the rumors that have emerged on Reddit, the video reveals that the rumored title is Star Wars: A New Beginning (TBA). But the rumor details more than just the title, as it includes new characters and key plot details, as well as the filming start date.

Rumored new characters include two Jedi padawans, a girl and a boy named Tyla and Deak, respectively. Established characters rumored to be returning are Ben Solo (Adam Driver), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels), R2-D2, and, surprisingly, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).

Earlier this year, Mark Hamill told The Hollywood Reporter that he had “no expectations” of appearing in the new film, while Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy told IGN that the film may not spend any time on Luke Skywalker or Force Ghosts.

But like we said, these are nothing but rumors at present, and nothing has been confirmed.

Whether or not any of this is true remains to be seen. As for the name, it may be a working title. The upcoming sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) has been dubbed Ghostbusters: Firehouse (2024) by the filmmakers, however, an official title is yet to be announced.

Either way, A New Beginning sounds generic, cliché, and derivative, so hopefully we’ll get something a bit more imaginative and iconic-sounding.

Per StarWars.com, here’s the synopsis for The Rise of Skywalker:

Lucasfilm and director JJ Abrams join forces once  more to take viewers on an epic journey to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the riveting conclusion of the  landmark Skywalker saga, in which new legends will be born and the final battle for freedom is yet to come.

It stars Daisy Ridley (Rey), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), John Boyega (Finn Wolfhard), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren/Ben Solo), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Keri Russell (Zorii Bliss), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine/Darth Sidious), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Richard E Grant (General Pryde), Domhnall Gleeson (General Armitage Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), and Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata).

There’s no release date for the upcoming Sequel-era film.
