Deadpool 3 has no release date in sight, and information about Marvel Studio’s first R-rated feature film has been hard to come by. Marvel boss Kevin Feige has been tight-lipped about confirming any details about Wade Wilson/ Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) transition from the Fox Marvel Universe to Marvel Cinematic Universe. And now Zazie Beetz, who played Domino in Deadpool 2 (2018), has revealed she is not ready to let her role go just yet.
Recently she sat down with CBS-owned Comicbook.com to promote her upcoming Netflix film The Harder They Fall. The Netflix film will also feature a recent entry in the MCU with Jonathon Majors playing Nat Love. Jonathon Majors debuted in the Disney+ series Loki as He Who Remains, a variant of the Marvel villain Kang the Conqueror, who will return in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (July 28, 2023).
So naturally, the topic of the Marvel Universe came up in Zazie Beetz’s interview, and she had this to say about her potential debut in the MCU:
“I would love to revisit Domino. I would love to do a Deadpool 3, 4, 5, 7, 19. I’ve also wanted to be like, ‘Maybe I could just do my own origin story.’ I feel honored to have been able to depict her on-screen and to have played with her as her. I love her, and so I would be more than happy to revisit her on camera. And I think I will. If Disney doesn’t make it happen, I’ll make it happen.”
Zazie Beetz previously confirmed that she had not been invited to return as Domino in Deadpool 3, but no cast members other than Ryan Reynolds, who will star as the Merc with a Mouth, have been announced. The script, which is not yet finished, will be co-written by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin (Bob’s Burgers, The Great North).
There is no director signed on for Deadpool 3 yet, and Ryan Reynolds recently announced that he was taking a sabbatical from acting after completing the filming of his Apple TV+ film Spirited. This puts the fate of the Marvel fan’s favorite mercenary in limbo. However, he recently crossed over into the MCU by reviewing the Free Guy trailer with Korg (Taika Waititi).
Who is Domino?
Domino, AKA Neena Thurman, first appeared in New Mutants #98 (1991) by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, the debut of Deadpool. However, it was actually Copycat impersonating her. She first showed up as herself as a cameo in X-Force #8 (1992) by Mike Mignola before becoming a member of the X-Men team.
Domino is the result of a government breeding program designed to create the perfect weapon. She has the power to manipulate probability. Essentially, as long as she takes any action, she can control whether or not something will work out in favor by giving herself “good luck” and her enemies “bad luck.”
Domino and Deadpool have a love/hate relationship, starting out as enemies. However, Wade Wilson has expressed a one-sided interest in a romantic relationship with Domino. They have had a platonic friendship for some time now.
Deadpool 2 left a lot unsaid about Domino, so bringing back the fan-favorite character should be a no-brainer for Marvel Studios. It is also unclear at this time if Josh Brolin is returning as Cable. However, the actor who also played Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019) has expressed interest in returning.
Let us know in the comments if you think Marvel Studios should take Zazie Beetz up on her offer to return as Domino in Deadpool 3.
