It looks like Star Wars fans will be able to see Hayden Christensen in not one, but two, Star Wars projects in the near future. The actor famously portrayed Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker — father to Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Princess Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) — in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005).
During the 2020 Disney Investor Day presentation, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Christensen will be reprising the role in Deborah Chow’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which recently finished filming. Ewan McGregor will also reprise as his iconic Jedi Master in the show, which will be set about 10 years prior to the events of Revenge of the Sith, including Order 66.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, multiple sources are confirming that Christensen will once again reprise his role as Darth Vader in the new Star Wars show Ahsoka. Ahsoka will also star Rosario Dawson, who brought Ahsoka Tano to life when she portrayed the Jedi Knight in the second season of the hit Disney+ live-action series, The Mandalorian.
It is unclear how Skywalker, or for that matter, Vader, will figure into Ahsoka, which, like Mandalorian, is set five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, thus after Vader’s death.
The character of Tano was the padawan (apprentice) of Skywalker so the latter’s appearance in the series could be in the form of flashbacks. But knowing a thing or two about how the Force works, sources also posit the theory the character could be a Force Ghost.
Disney was as silent as Darth Maul when asked to comment.
As is tradition with The Walt Disney Company, details on the new show are being kept tightly under wraps. However, it is known that Mandalorian executive producer Dave Filoni will be one of the writers on the series and Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau will be producing. The two will be expanding their “Mando-verse” with the series, which also includes, of course, The Mandalorian and the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett.
Production on Ahsoka is scheduled to begin sometime in 2022.
