Since then, Disney World visitors have slowly watched the nondescript exterior of the Halcyon luxury starliner come to life nearStar Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park.
While we know certain details about the Galactic Starcruiser experience — like the fact that Chewbacca, Rey, and Kylo Ren will all be on board and Guests will take a port excursion to Batuu’s Black Spire Outpost — many details about this first-of-its-kind Walt Disney World Resort hotel remain.
During a media event today, Ann Morrow Johnson, Executive Producer and Creative Director for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, shared details about the exciting experience Guests have to look forward to:
“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is a completely first-of-its-kind vacation experience where Guests get to spend two nights living out a story in the Star Wars universe. It’s not really a hotel, it’s not really immersive theater, it’s not really a theme park, it’s not really gameplay — it’s kind of an intersection of all of those things where Guests get to play a role and choose their path within the Star Wars story. So when you come on board, you’ve got everything from your food, your activities, your accommodations onboard as well as your shore excursion in kind of a traditional cruise-style model, if you will. But of course, you’re on the one fateful journey that goes horribly, horribly wrong, and you get wrapped up in the action. So depending on the characters you meet, you might choose to help different folks and your story will unfold differently as a result.”
Imagineers and Disney Parks executives have previously been vocal about how they want Guests to take part in the action onboard the Halcyon, even encouraging passengers to dress like Twi’leks and other species from the Star Wars galaxy.
The roleplaying, or gameplaying, aspect of the upcoming Star Wars hotel is one of the key things that sets it apart from other Disney Resorts. Nowhere else can Guests fully immerse themselves in another world — in this case, the Star Wars universe — so fully.
Now that we have an official opening date for the very first Disney Park Star Wars hotel, it’s only a matter of time until Guests learn exactly what Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek meant when he promised the starship will leave passengers completely “blown away”.
