Disney has continued the phased reopening of both Walt Disney World and Disneyland as both Resorts have been monitoring the ongoing pandemic and adjusting protocols as needed. One of the major protocols put in place when the Resorts reopened to Guests was a reduction in capacity.

However, as we continue to move forward, both Disney World and Disneyland have increased their capacity since first reopening, all while still monitoring the ongoing pandemic and following recommendations from the CDC.

Now, it seems that capacity will increase once again.

During the Walt Disney World Q3 earnings call earlier this week, Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy touched on capacity at the Disney Parks, indicating that capacity increase will be aggressive, but also highly monitored as we continue to move through the pandemic.

McCarthy stated during the earnings call, “This is an ever-changing landscape with COVID. We’re going to be particularly careful and also going to bring our capacity online aggressively but measured.”

With all of this being said, we were curious as to how Guests and fans felt about the Disney Parks increasing capacity again.

Inside the Magic reader, J., commented on our article expressing:

I’m all for increasing capacity as another step toward normalcy, but please open all the shows, restaurants, parades, amenities etc. in order to spread the crowds back out so the lines aren’t as long.

And Facebook follower Grise T. said:

Too crowded right now. Imagine when this happens

Christy P. recently visited Disney World and shared their experience:

I was the a few weeks ago and sure felt like capacity had already been SIGNIFICANTLY increased! Long lines for everything at every park every day. Not just for rides, but even 20 minutes to get a pretzel…

Lorri H. also recently visited Disney World and expressed it felt the theme parks were already at full capacity, though it is important to keep in mind that Disney has not confirmed either Resort is operating at 100% capacity:

When we were there seemed to be already at capacity..

This is something another Inside the Magic fan, Melissa A., echoed:

I’m here now and it feels like business as usual

John P. expressed some concerns, writing;

Yeah increase capacity especially when there’s outbreaks of COVID-19 in Florida great job!!

And lastly, Siobhan P. commented on our recent article expressing some of their concerns:

Glad I’m not going anytime soon. We went in December 2020 when the parks were still at 35% capacity. They had some trouble keeping tabs on masks and controlling things then and safety/belligerance incidents have only increased since then. Not sure that they can control the crowds’ safety with increased capacity.

Again, please keep in mind that Walt Disney World Resort was given the “green light” to return to full capacity months ago when Florida Governor DeSantis allowed for it, but Disney World has not yet confirmed it increased to operating on full capacity. At this time, we do know that they have and will continue to increase their Park capacity and the last confirmed number released was 35% capacity, though we do know Disney World has admitted to increasing its capacity since then, and we are unsure of what the exact number is at this time.

In regards to Disneyland Resort, we know the theme parks are also operating at a reduced capacity in California. On June 15, Governor Newsom lifted the state’s COVID-19 restrictions, allowing Disneyland to operate as usual once again, but like Disney World in Florida, Disneyland is not yet operating at full capacity, but they are gradually continuing to increase capacity.
