When Walt Disney World reopened its theme parks to the public after the temporary closure last year, it also brought several changes. One of those changes was replacing parades with pop-up cavalcades to help alleviate crowds.
Now, as we continue to move forward amid the ongoing pandemic, many are wondering if and when Disney will bring parades back to Walt Disney World, specifically Magic Kingdom. We already know nighttime spectaculars will return — for example, Happily Ever After and EPCOT Forever will both return to the theme parks on July 1. With that being said, what will happen with parades, such as Festival of Fantasy, the daytime parade at Magic Kingdom Park?
Walt Disney World recently announced a brand-new cavalcade will be coming to Magic Kingdom for the 50th anniversary. This means that at this point in time, Disney is clearly still planning cavalcades for later this year. For something as big as the 50th anniversary, if Disney World were to bring back parades, why would they have announced a cavalcade?
Personally, I am speculating that parades will not be coming back to Walt Disney World for quite some time. First, the feedback from cavalcades has been incredible as Guests love just randomly hearing music come over the loudspeaker and being surprised by Mickey and friends riding parade floats down Main Street, U.S.A.
Additionally, we know the 50th anniversary will last 18 months — it will begin on October 1, 2021, and it will last well into 2023. What this means is that if Magic Kingdom is bringing a new pop-up cavalcade for the 50th anniversary, they will more than likely run the cavalcade through the end of the celebrations. So perhaps we may not see a parade (whether that is a new parade or a returning parade) at Magic Kingdom until 2023.
This is pure speculation and Disney has not confirmed if parades will return in the near future or if cavalcades will replace them permanently, but Inside the Magic will update you as we get information. For now, the Walt Disney World website still states that parades are not running, and Disney did not announce any new parades for the Disney World 50th anniversary — only Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade, which will run several times daily.
In terms of the 50th anniversary, Guests can look forward to several other new events for Disney World’s 50th, including EPCOT’s new nighttime spectacular, HarmonioUS, a new nighttime spectacular coming to Magic Kingdom, a new daytime show coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, several new interactive character statues, and more.
