Universal Studios Hollywood has opened back up to Guests after a year-long park closure. With the opening came the unveiling of Universal Hollywood’s newest ride, The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash.

This new ride is using a new type of virtual line reservation system. For the time being, The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash will operate exclusively on the Virtual Lineâ„¢ system. The same system is currently being used at the Universal Orlando Resort.

Let’s take a look at the new line system.

Getting a Virtual Line Ticket

Universal has made it incredibly easy for Guests to get a Virtual Lineâ„¢ ticket to ride the new attraction. There are two ways that Guests can get this pass.

Using the App

It is highly recommended that Guests visiting Universal Studios Hollywood download the park app. On the app, Guests can see current attraction wait times, view a theme park map, check out what restaurants are open, and take a look at their menus. It is also where Guests can get their Virtual Lineâ„¢ ticket.

As mentioned, the steps that Guests must take to secure their Virtual Lineâ„¢ ticket are very simple. First, log on to the park app, then click on “Rides”. That will bring you to all the rides and attractions that are at the theme park. Then scroll to Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash and click on it.

Next, Guests will click on the Virtual Lineâ„¢ Pass. If there are passes available, it will bring you to a page where you can select your desired time from a list of available options.

Select the time you would like and hit “Reserve Virtual Lineâ„¢ Pass”. Boom! Your line pass is reserved! You can now go enjoy your time in the park and come back to ride the attraction when your return time comes up.

Using a Virtual Lineâ„¢ Machine

A little down Pet’s Place, close to the Secret Life of Pets ride entrance, there is a physical machine where Guests can also make their Virtual Lineâ„¢ reservations.

If you choose this route, you will need to up to the machine — which has hand sanitizer in between the two kiosks to keep everything clean — and, if there are times available, you will be able to select the time you’d like to ride Universal’s latest attraction.

You will then receive a printed receipt with your return time on it. Do not lose this receipt! It is the only proof that you have booked a time to ride the attraction.

Redeeming Your Virtual Ticket

When it is time to redeem your Virtual Lineâ„¢ ticket, you will walk up to the ride entrance and get in line. Since The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash is currently only operating with virtual reservations, all Guests stand in the same line. Once you get to the front of the line, a Universal park employee will ask to see your reservation. It is best to pull it up before you get to the front, so you are ready to go.

Your virtual reservation in the app will pop up as a QR code that the employee will scan.

Once the QR code is scanned, you are allowed into the building. From there, take it all in and have a great time riding The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash!

As of right now, The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash is the only attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood using this virtual queue system. There is no word on whether other rides in the park will soon join the Virtual Line™ system.

With attractions like Jurassic World: The Ride boasting wait times of 3 hours, it seems as though adding more attractions to the virtual reservation system may be the way to go, but again, Universal officials have not confirmed anything at this time.
