The much anticipated Disney Enchanted sequel, Disenchanted, has added three more major Hollywood actresses to its cast list. Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jayma Mays have been confirmed as joining the sequel. The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
Per Deadline:
Two-time Primetime Emmy winner Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown and Jayma Mays are boarding Disenchanted, the Disney+ Enchanted sequel starring Amy Adams, Idina Menzel and James Marsden. Â
Rudolph is probably best known for extensive work on Saturday Night Live, most recently winning critical acclaim for her portrayal of Vice President Kamala Harris. She will also star in the upcoming Disney-Pixar film Luca.Â
Yvette Nicole Brown is best known for her role as Shirley Bennett on the hit NBC comedy, Community. She is currently starring in the new show Big Shot that can be watched on Disney+ and also appeared in Avengers: Endgame (2019), much to her surprise!
The third actress recently confirmed to join Disney’s Disenchanted is Jayma Mays. Mays played teacher and love interest of Will Schuester (played by Matthew Morrison), Emma Pillsbury, in the hit musical series Glee.
Disenchanted will also feature Amy Adams (Arrival), reprising her role as Giselle, and Idina Menzel (Frozen)Â and James Marsden (Hairspray) will be returning as Nancy Tremaine and Prince Edward. Original songwriter, Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), will also be returning to score the music for the new sequel.
Heartthrob Patrick Dempsey will also be returning for the highly anticipated sequel project in the role of Robert, the love interest of Amy Adams’ Giselle.
If you have never seen the original film — and you really should — here is the official Disney synopsis:
For princess-to-be Giselle, life is a fairy tale — until she’s banished from the animated land of Andalasia and thrust into the very unmagical, live-action world of modern-day Manhattan. When a cynical, no-nonsense divorce lawyer comes to her aid, little does he realize that this joyful, wide-eyed innocent is about to enchant him.
The Enchanted sequel was talked about as far back as 2010, but nothing seemed to fully move forward until pre-production was announced in 2020. According to Disney Wiki Fandom, the story of Disenchanted will take place a decade after the original film. Disney Wiki Fandom writes:
The story is set ten years after Enchanted. Giselle, Robert and Morgan have since moved from New York to the suburbs. When Giselle begins to question her happily ever after, she wishes her life was more like a perfect fairytale. However, her wish turns both her real life and her animated home of Andalasia upside down.
There is currently no word on what characters — be they heroes or villains — the three actresses will play.
Disenchanted will be directed by Adam Shankman (Glee), with screenplay credit being given to Jessie Nelson (Little Voice), J. David Stem (Daddy Day Camp), and David N. Weiss (Daddy Day Camp). Stem and Weiss have worked together on numerous projects in the past, including Shrek 2, Are We There Yet, and Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.
While Disenchanted is adding to its cast list on a regular basis, we do not know when the Enchanted sequel will start filming or when it will be released on to Disney+. Inside the Magic will keep readers updated as we learn more information about this enchanting sequel!
