The temporary closure of Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California is now going on 7 months — Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park were shut down on March 14 due to the pandemic — and Disney Parks fans, Anaheim residents, and the California State Legislature are beginning to wonder when it will once again be open to Guests.

This evening, California District 65 Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, who represents the communities of Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, Garden Grove, La Palma, and Stanton, and West Anaheim, shared this Tweet on her official account:

Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva wrote to her followers:

I, along with my colleagues, request that @CAgovernor consider immediate reopening of California’s theme parks. Our theme park industry needs clear guidance to ensure the safety & health of their employees & guests. It’s time to reopen theme parks, safely and responsibly! #reopen

The California Assemblywoman also shared scans of a two-page letter to Governor Newsom. It was signed by Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva, who serves as the Chair of the Assembly Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism, & Internet Media Committee, as well as Assemblymembers Tom Daly, Kansen Chu, Chad Mayers, and Sabrina Cervantes, and Senators Bob Archuleta and Tom Umberg. In total, 19 state legislators signed the document.

The California Attractions and Parks Association — which worked with Disney and Universal theme parks on reopening guidelines — also Tweeted saying that parks in the state are “ready to responsibly reopen.”

Over the course of the past couple of weeks, public pressure for Governor Newsom to reopen Disneyland, Universal Hollywood, Knott’s Berry Farm, and other California theme parks has been mounting.

As ITM readers undoubtedly know, Disneyland fans have been particularly vocal about their desire for Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure to reopen in the near future, especially given the clear demand for the Downtown Disney District, which has frequently reached its limited capacity lately.

About two weeks ago, Governor Newsom indicated that he would be announcing reopening plans for Disneyland Resort and other theme parks “very, very shortly,” but has yet to give any further details.

Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock has spoken out, saying:

“Without those guidelines, we’re quite honestly in limbo,” Disneyland resort president Ken Potrock said. “We are ready to open responsibly, it is the time to open responsibly and it’s important to open responsibly.”

It seems that members of the California State Assembly are on Disneyland’s side.

What do you think about California State Senators and Representatives appealing to Governor Newsom to reopen theme parks now?
