Jurassic World Rebirth is fast approaching. First announced in January, the seventh film in the long-running Jurassic series, which is one of three upcoming sequels, has gained a lot of traction over the last few months.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (2014’s Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), written by David Koepp (who wrote the screenplay for Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park), produced by Jurassic veterans Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, and executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, the film marks the beginning of “a new Jurassic era.”

The film takes place five years after the events of the latest sequel, Jurassic World Dominion (2022), which introduced dinosaurs living on the mainland.

However, as revealed in the official synopsis for Rebirth (click here for our full breakdown), “the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs,” which means those that have survived now live in “isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived.”

Rebirth stars Marvel Cinematic Universe star Scarlett Johansson as covert operations expert Zora Bennett, who’s hired to lead a team on a top-secret mission to secure DNA from the world’s three biggest dinosaurs across land, sea, and air.

But when they cross paths with a civilian family whose boat has been capsized by underwater dinosaurs, they all find themselves stranded on a mysterious dinosaur-inhabited island where they uncover “a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades” (we have a few theories as to what this major twist will be).

Now, the upcoming sequel has wrapped filming, which has spanned the national parks of Thailand, underwater tanks in Malta Film Studios, Sky Studios Elstree in the UK, and reshoots on location in New York City.

Director Gareth Edwards, who recently spoke exclusively to Empire Magazine about the film, said he’s now in the thick of post-production. With a theatrical release scheduled for July 2, next year, things appear to be moving rather swiftly. But for many fans, things feel like they’re moving very slowly.

The consensus within the fanbase is that we really ought to have seen the first trailer by now. The trailers for the first two films in the World series, Jurassic World (2015) and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), both of which were June releases, premiered in November and December, respectively.

Despite also being a June release, Jurassic World Dominion was a bit more complicated due to delays from the COVID-19 pandemic–its first trailer dropped in February, four months before it hit theaters.

With Jurassic World Rebirth not hitting the big screen until July 2, it’s possible we aren’t due the trailer until January, 2025 at the earliest. Still, Jurassic fans are losing their minds over on X/Twitter, using hilarious GIFs to get their points across.

@Hotsauce_man is begging Universal Pictures for the trailer. Given the time of year, they probably should have asked Santa:
