Big Thunder Mountain Railroad first opened at Disneyland Park in 1979. One year later, Walt Disney World Resort debuted its version of the Frontierland roller coaster at Magic Kingdom Park. Years later, similar attractions premiered at Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.

Disneyland Resort hasn’t announced plans to change Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Short-term attraction refurbishments are normal–ride mechanics wear out quickly when stressed by thousands of Disney Park guests seven days a week, 365 days a year. Without confirmation from Disney, fans shouldn’t worry about any noticeable modifications to the ride.

Like most Disneyland Resort attractions, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has recently experienced breakdowns. In May, one Disney Park guest shared a video of her family evacuating the roller coaster after an unknown mechanical failure. The attraction eventually reopened.
