We’ve got new updates to share with you on the future of Pirates of the Caribbean 6, as well as Johnny Depp.
As a fan who has been captivated by the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise since its inception, I find it almost impossible to imagine the series continuing without Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. He’s not just a character; he’s the soul of the entire saga. Millions of fans feel this exact same way.

So, when Disney announced that they were moving forward with the franchise without him, many of us were left wondering: how could they even think about doing that?
Over the past couple of years, the chatter about a sixth installment has been filled with speculation, rumors, and a lot of wishful thinking. But what’s really interesting is the fact that Disney hasn’t moved forward with production on this new Pirates film.
It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for any concrete news, and the silence is almost deafening. Could this mean that Disney is rethinking their decision to exclude Johnny Depp from the franchise?
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Captain Without His Ship
Let’s be honest, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is Johnny Depp.
His portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow is nothing short of iconic, and it’s hard to imagine anyone else filling those eccentric boots. From the first moment we saw him saunter onto the screen in The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Depp made it clear that this wasn’t just another pirate movie—it was an adventure like no other.

His charm, wit, and unpredictable antics brought a fresh energy to the genre, and it’s that same energy that has kept fans coming back for more.
So, when rumors started swirling that Disney was planning to reboot the franchise without him, it felt like a punch to the gut. Sure, there’s been talk of a female-led spinoff with Margot Robbie, but that’s not the same. It’s not about replacing Jack Sparrow with a new lead; it’s about whether the franchise can survive without its most beloved character. And for many of us, the answer is a resounding no.
Is Disney Reconsidering its Pirates of the Caribbean Stance?

The fact that there hasn’t been much movement on the sixth film is beginning to make many wonder if Disney is starting to have second thoughts.
After all, the backlash from fans has been significant, with many expressing their disappointment and frustration over the decision to move on without Depp. The studio has to be aware of how integral he is to the franchise’s success. Could the delay in production be a sign that they’re reconsidering their stance?
It’s not just wishful thinking, either. There have been some hints that the door isn’t entirely closed on Johnny Depp’s return.
According to insiders, Depp himself has expressed interest in reprising the role, albeit with some reservations. And while nothing official has been announced, the fact that Disney hasn’t rushed to start production without him suggests that they might be weighing their options.
This isn’t to say that Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer couldn’t move forward with the original plans — which involves Margot Robbie as the lead in one production and an entirely new and rebooted cast in another — but the lack of movement at least suggests that the company is being careful, especially after backlash has caused a few films to tank at the box office in recent years.
What About the Other POTC Cast Members?

In the meantime, we’ve also heard from other former Pirates cast members, and their perspectives add another layer to this ongoing saga. Naomie Harris, who played the enigmatic Tia Dalma (also known as Calypso) in Dead Man’s Chest(2006) and At World’s End (2007), recently shared her thoughts on a potential return to the franchise.
When asked about whether she could see herself returning to the Pirates world, Harris had a bittersweet response:
“I disintegrated into a million crabs, so I think my character is very much dead,” she said in a recent ComicBook interview. “I loved Tia Dalma, like she is one of my favorite characters of all time that I played. So I would definitely like to come back, but I think she’s very much dead.”
It’s clear from her comments that Harris has a deep affection for the character and the franchise, but she’s also realistic about the unlikelihood of her return. Her character’s dramatic exit in the third film was one of the most memorable moments of the series, and it’s hard to see how they could bring her back without some serious plot gymnastics.
As for other stars like Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann Turner) or Orlando Bloom (Will Turner), we’ve yet to hear from them.
What’s Next for Pirates of the Caribbean?

As fans, we’re in a bit of a limbo right now. On one hand, we’re eager for more adventures on the high seas, but on the other hand, the idea of a Pirates of the Caribbean movie without Johnny Depp feels like a betrayal.
The franchise has always been a mix of thrilling action, supernatural elements, and, of course, Captain Jack’s unique brand of humor. Take him out of the equation, and what’s left?
There’s also the concern that a new Pirates film without Depp could struggle to recapture the magic of the original movies. The last installment, Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), received mixed reviews, and many critics pointed to Depp’s performance as one of the few highlights. Without him, it’s hard to imagine the franchise maintaining its momentum, let alone surpassing it.
At this point, it’s hard to say what the future holds for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Disney has remained tight-lipped about their plans, and the lack of movement on the sixth film has only fueled speculation. But one thing is clear: fans aren’t ready to say goodbye to Captain Jack Sparrow just yet.
The longer Disney waits to make a decision, the more it feels like they’re trying to figure out a way to bring Depp back into the fold.
After all, they have to know that his absence would be a major blow to the franchise’s appeal. And while it’s possible that they could move forward without him, it’s also possible that they’re starting to realize that Pirates of the Caribbean just isn’t the same without Johnny Depp.
