With Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) at the helm and David Koepp (Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park) back in the writer’s room, Jurassic World Rebirth will launch “a new Jurassic era” with an all-new cast that replaces actors from the previous films played by Sam Neill (Alan Grant), Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler), Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm), Chris Pratt (Owen Grady), and Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire Dearing).

Universal Pictures recently shared the official synopsis for the upcoming film, which promises the beginning of “a new era” for the franchise.

“This action-packed new chapter sees an intrepid team racing to secure DNA samples from the three most colossal creatures across land, sea, and air,” the synopsis reads. “Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived.”

It continues, “The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind. Academy Award® nominee [Scarlett] Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetical material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs.”

“When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.”

In addition to the synopsis, we also got two stills from the film and a first-look at the new logo.

There are a few major concerns with this new logo. Firstly, it’s lazy and derivative — the silver font is lifted directly from 2015’s Jurassic World, which adopted the color scheme to fit in with the film’s themes of corporatism and capitalism. According to the synopsis for Jurassic World Rebirth, the upcoming sequel has nothing to do with those themes.

Even the brief score, which is a variation of the original Jurassic Park (1993) theme by John Williams, was used for the 2015 film and the two animated shows, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (2020 — 2022) and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (2024 — current).

Secondly, the logo just isn’t all that intriguing, as it feels like a mish-mash of previous versions. It also looks far too more chemical-y and clean. This might make sense from a “rebirth” perspective, but it still doesn’t look particularly attractive. Where’s the grime?

The original Jurassic Park logo requires no explanation, but the black-and-red color pallet, the T-Rex skeleton, and the safari-style font is just pure genius. The Lost World: Jurassic Park logo is a cracked and dirty version of the original, which fits in with the concept of a lost and forgotten jungle island where nature has reclaimed InGen’s facilities.

Jurassic Park III replaces the T-Rex skeleton with that of a Spinosaurus while adopting a red-and-silver pallet and three slashes that substitute as “3”. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom‘s logo is cracked and being showered by falling embers; a reference to the volcanic eruption in the film.

And Jurassic World Dominion‘s logo is entombed in fossilized amber, as the sequel returns the franchise’s focus to the dangers of genetic engineering.

But what’s the meaning behind the Jurassic World Rebirth logo? Going on the synopsis, with which the logo seemingly has zero connection, it doesn’t look like there is much of one.

Either way, everything Universal Pictures has shared so far, including the two rather underwhelming stills from the film, lacks any sort of punch. So here’s to hoping all of it is just a placeholder for something a bit more promising. But we won’t hold our butts.

When Can I Watch Jurassic World Rebirth?

Future Jurassic Park/Jurassic World Projects

While it seems like the Jurassic World banner continues to dominate the franchise, an upcoming video game titled “Jurassic Park: Survival” (TBA) will act as a direct sequel to the beloved 1993 film by director Steven Spielberg, offering players the opportunity to explore “a fully realized Isla Nublar” just 24 hours after the events of the original classic.
