After the release of the first portion of the new minisodes, Bluey fans are still clamoring for more. While many fans might consider the new miniseries disappointingly brief, a new announcement from Ludo might help smooth things over.

While the studio has neither confirmed or denied its next move, the recent announcements surrounding the show are essentially a trail of breadcrumbs teasing the fanbase in preparation for the inevitable season four. However, a new development shared by one of Bluey’s biggest creatives might make more than a few waves.

Geoff Bush has served as the show’s composer since day one, and his work on the albums Bluey: The Album and Dance Mode earned both him and the beloved series several acclaims, including the first children’s album to reach the #1 spot on the Australian Aria chart. Now, it seems like Bush is prepping fans for a return to the Heeler’s backyard with the announcement of Rug Island.

Any viewer worth their salt knows how instrumental (pun intended) music is to the show’s successful process. Inspired by the episode of the same name, Rug Island is the third album in Bluey’s official discography, and die-hard Bluey buffs will instantly be drawn to the surf-heavy vibes with this new installment.

Ludo shared the following announcement on the show’s blog:
“Bluey’s third album, Bluey: Rug Island, featuring 16 original tracks by the series’ award-winning composer Joff Bush and the Bluey music team will be released on October 25, 2024! It is available to pre-order now!”
“The debut single, “Octopus,” featuring the Yolŋu surf rock combo King Stingray, is out this Friday (August 2). The album will be released across streaming services, CD, a beautiful sunset orange vinyl and a limited-edition vinyl picture disc.”
Music is an integral element of Bluey’s storytelling. From techno-bops to famous pieces of classical music, each episode utilizes the soundtrack to enhance emotions, drive the narrative, and foster a joyful, imaginative atmosphere for both children and adults invested in the show, but there might be another layer to it than just a new album to enjoy.
More to the Story

As pointed out by @AussieGirlMargie in her assessment this week, the creatives at Ludo Studio might be simply baiting the fanbase with increasingly big announcements before the reveal of season four. First it was the miniseries, then came the album announcement, and the next development will logically be even bigger than that.

Rug Island isn’t just a new album with music from the show; it’s a stepping stone towards the next chapter. A collaboration between a show like Bluey and any artist is a big deal, and there’s nowhere to go but up.
We might still have to wait until 2025 or 2026 for the next batch of full-length episodes, but at least Ludo isn’t leaving us in the dark. All we can do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the tunes.
