Directed by Shawn Levy, who also directed Deadpool 2 (2018), this latest addition to the Deadpool franchise will be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following The Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, now known as 20th Century Studios.

Ryan Reynolds, renowned for his role as Deadpool/Wade Wilson (the self-proclaimed “Marvel Jesus”), teamed up with his “frenemy” Hugh Jackman, famous for his portrayal of Wolverine/Logan in the Fox X-Men Universe. Together, they initially announced that the Deadpool franchise would continue, smoothly transitioning into Disney’s MCU under the leadership of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

The transition from the self-contained Fox X-Men Universe to the larger MCU, currently in its Multiverse Saga phase, requires Marvel to find a way to incorporate the mutant-heavy X-Men universe into the narrative of the third Deadpool film.

With Deadpool & Wolverine poised to pit the two leads against each other — and multiple Multiversal variants of themselves — it stands to reason that the power level of the heroes will have to be relatively high, With Reynold’s Deadpool undergoing a physical transformation to get stronger himself, others will seemingly naturally follow.

Disney Does Not Want Actor Getting Buff

According to Variety, new Marvel star Emma Corrin (The Crown, Lady Chatterley’s Lover, My Policeman), slated to play Professor X “variant” — or more accurately, evil twin — from the Marvel Comics, Cassandra Nova, is sharing their experience with working for the superhero giant.

According to Corrin, The Walt Disney Company and Marvel studio and told them to deliberately not undergo a physical “transformation” for Deadpool & Wolverine. In fact, Corrin was refused a personal trainer.

Opening up about the experience negotiating with Disney, Corrin stated that they were “so ready” to “undergo a huge transformation” — but alas, Disney was unwilling to do so:

This is funny because I did ask if I could have a personal trainer and they said no. They said I don’t have to undergo any physical training. I was so ready to undergo a huge transformation but they were like, ‘That’s absolutely not required of you. Please stand down.’ I tried.

Why did Disney deny Corrin a personal trainer? Perhaps it’s less that it isn’t required and more that they did not want the character to get too buff.

In the Marvel Comics, Professor X’s twin and arch-foe, Cassandra Nova, is a powerful Mutant villain debuting in the “New X-Men” series by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely.

As Charles Xavier’s twin sister, she survived by transferring her consciousness into her mother’s body and harbors a deep hatred for Mutants, particularly her brother. Cassandra Nova orchestrates a Mutant genocide on Genosha — the Mutant sanctuary island that might contain Adamantium, potentially connected to Eternals (2021) — and becomes a formidable adversary for the X-Men, exploiting their vulnerabilities and causing internal conflicts within the team.

With that in mind, a waifish, friendly look might have been something more ideal.

More on Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool 3 is potentially set to introduce several notable X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

This exciting roster includes Halle Berry reprising her role as Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm; Famke Janssen returning as Dr. Jean Grey; James Marsden resuming his portrayal of Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops; and the beloved Patrick Stewart making a comeback as the iconic Professor Charles Xavier, or Professor X, alongside Ian McKellen reprising his role as Erik Lehnsherr, known as Magneto.

There’s even a chance that the younger iterations of Professor Xavier, Magneto, and Mystique from the Fox franchise, originally played by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence, respectively, could be integrated.

Furthermore, Channing Tatum is rumored to have completed filming for Deadpool 3. Additionally, Jennifer Garner, who starred as Elektra in Ben Affleck’s Daredevil (2003), is expected to make a return as Elektra in the upcoming film. These revelations represent just a fraction of the cameos and roles that have been unveiled so far.
