Mickey Mouse has been through a lot this year, entering the horror and X-rated genre practically as soon as Steamboat Willie (1926) joined the public domain in January. In the next few years, The Walt Disney Company will lose copyright to more versions of Mickey Mouse and his friends–the brand icon will increasingly belong to the public over the coming decades.
This weekend, though, it was Disney who decided to shake things up with Mickey Mouse. The official Disney Parks (@DisneyParks) TikTok account shared a video of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse transforming their exclusive outfits at Disney Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line’s private island.
@disneyparks NEW FITS 🤩 Mickey Mouse and Friends just debuted new looks at Castaway Cay ☀️🏖️ #Disney #DisneyParks #DisneyCruiseLine #CastawayCay #Cruise #Beach
But Mickey and Minnie Mouse aren’t the only ones with bright, tropical new looks! Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, Pluto, Goofy, Chip, and Dale debuted new outfits they’ll meet vacationers in during their visits to Disney Castaway Cay. (The characters won’t show off these ensembles at Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, or any Disney theme parks worldwide.)
Fans might not be happy with Disney’s recent decisions, like shutting down a marriage proposal at a Disney park or changing the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Still, the response to Mickey and friends’ new outfits was overwhelmingly positive.
