This week, Ludo Studios dropped three teasers hyping up the arrival of Bluey’s massive finale. As the Heeler clan preps for the long-predicted wedding of Uncle Rad and Aunt Frisky, new footage confirms a fan theory that’s been circulating the fandom as early as season one.

Bluey fans have been all a-twitter about Rad and Frisky getting a wedding episode, but they’re not the only couple of interest seen in the series. In fact, one blossoming romance has been seen in far more episodes and only recently came to fruition at the tail end of season 3.

Hardcore Bluey buffs are already well acquainted with many side characters, some of whom have gotten their own episodes. One such character is Cornelius, a large English Bulldog who sells toffee apples and is the father of Bluey’s buddy, Winton. While not the most vocal member of the cast, Cornelius has been going through his own character arc over the course of several episodes.

Joe Brumm and the rest of the show’s creative team are infamously meticulous when it comes to world-building, and even the background dogs have a part to play in the grand scheme of Bluey’s animated Brisbane. Winton’s dad appears in 15 episodes across the series, and he’s commonly seen going on dates with various lady dogs. That’s not too unusual until we come to season 3.

The fact that so much storytelling can be conveyed through visuals alone is truly a testament to the show’s creativity, but the climax of his arc (thus far) doesn’t hit until the episode “TV Shop.”

What We Know

Although he’s mainly utilized as a background character, fans already know more about Cornelius than they think (as pointed out by @aussiegirlmargie). Winton tells Bluey in “Helicopter” that his mum and dad don’t live together, implying they are divorced. While we see him on several dates over the course of the series, we don’t know the extent of his situation until season 3.

Inside the Magic has talked about the episode before, and the image below speaks a thousand words regarding how devastating it must have been. Even the creators on share that something graphic went down between them.

Although we aren’t privy to what caused the divorce or separation, the image of the scratched-off decal is very telling. The plot thickens as “TV Shop” progresses, as the bulldog dad catches the eye of the Terriers’ mum while she looks through the cosmetics.

As if to solidify this lovely little detail, Ludo Studios dropped footage this week where one of the terrier triplets admits to Winton, “Our mum likes your dad.” promptly met by a chorus of awws from both the background characters and likely any viewers. As to what this means for the show, only the creators know for certain.

The remaining episodes, “Ghostbasket” and “The Sign,” stream worldwide on April 7 and 14, 2024, and will likely tie up more than a few loose ends. Until then, fans still have more than a few episodes to rewatch and catch up before the big day.
