In late October 2021, a petition began making its rounds asking Disney to fire current CEO, Bob Chapek. Within two days, the petition gained over 50,000 signatures.

Now, as we move into the new year, it seems that the attention isn’t slowing down as fans keep signing the petition.

In early 2020, Bob Chapek took on the role of CEO of the Walt Disney Company after Bob Iger stepped down in early 2020. Prior to becoming CEO, Chapek was the Chairman of Parks and Resorts for Disney.

Since Chapek took on the role of CEO, which was during the ongoing pandemic, he has made many difficult decisions including budget cuts and layoffs of thousands of Cast Members after the Parks shutdown due to the ongoing pandemic. Additionally, Chapek was in the role of CEO when Disney Genie launched, including the new paid FastPass system, Lightning Lane.

Because of this, many feel as though Bob Chapek is not taking the company in the appropriate direction, and therefore, the petition was created.

The petition, in part, reads:

Bob Chapek became the Chairman of Parks and Resorts for Disney in 2015. He has consistently made decisions that decrease the quality of what is put into the parks, and also ones that favor using Intellectual properties instead of original attractions. He consistently put himself and money above the product, and quality of the company.

The change.org petition also makes mention of the current Disney Chairman of Parks and Resorts, Josh D’Amaro, as many feel he would make a better fit for the role of CEO. D’Amaro is known for being very involved and making appearances in the Parks, and, as the petition states, “assuring quality, greeting Guests, and even riding through new attractions to assure high quality.”

Recently, fans also begged The Walt Disney Company to bring Bob Iger back as CEO and to get rid of Bob Chapek, but Iger confirmed he has no plans to return and, instead, will be enjoying his retirement.

The petition now has nearly 90,000 signatures. You can view the petition here.
