Universal Orlando Resort made a major change to its mask mandate policy this week.

Previously, Universal Orlando Resort Guests were not required to wear a mask indoors or outdoors. Guests were encouraged to wear a mask while indoors, and a periodic message would play reminding Guests to social distance and encouraging them to wear a face-covering while indoors.

This week, the Universal mask policy changed.

Beginning on Christmas Eve, Guests and Team Members will now be required to wear a mask while indoors at any public area, including attractions, restaurants, indoor hotels, public areas, and shops. This includes at Universal Studios, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and Universal’s City Walk.

Universal Orlando posted the operations update on Twitter.

Update from Universal Orlando Resort

The announcement reads:

UNIVERSAL ORLANDO OPERATIONS UPDATE
The health and safety of our guests and team members is always our top priority. As a result, face coverings will now be required, effective Friday, Dec. 24 at all public indoor locations within Universal Orlando Resort for both quests and team members regardless of vaccination status – including restaurants, shops, and indoor hotel public areas.

Face coverings are also required at all attractions from the moment guests enter the queue to when they exit the experience.
We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as needed.

Universal fans were split on the decision made by the Resort.

Cher B. on Inside the Magic’s Facebook page said they were happy they visited Universal Orlando before the mask mandate policy was back in effect.

So glad I went last weekend

Daniel S. said they were close to purchasing Universal Orlando Annual Passes but now will not.

I almost got annual passes too.
Dodged a bullet there.

Clint J. echoed those sentiments.

Same here! Would rather burn the money than support mandate businesses.

Dillon P. said they are planning a trip to Universal next month and are glad that the mask mandate is back in place.

good. I want to go next month and the last place I would want to quarantine is…Orlando Florida. LOL

On the flip side, Colleen L. said they were planning a trip in three weeks and would not have decided to come had they known about the mask mandate ahead of time.

This really sucks. We’re going in three weeks and I never would have planned the trip if I had known we’d have to mask up again. I’d cancel now if it didn’t mean losing $$$$ on plane tickets.

Regardless of thoughts on the mask policy, please be aware that Universal Orlando Resort is based on private property, and they have the ability to make their own rules and regulations for Guests. Failure to comply with this new mask rule will have you removed from the Park.

What do you think of the new mask mandate at Universal Orlando Resort?
