Universal Orlando has just made a major change to its face mask policy for Team Members.
Previously Team Members were required to wear masks in indoor “onstage” settings, but now, Universal Orlando states that employees who are vaccinated against COVID-19 will no longer have to wear face masks.
Since May 2021, Universal Orlando has not required Guests to wear masks indoors, but Team Members were required to wear face coverings while indoors. Now, Universal Orlando is changing its policy.
According to Spectrum News, in an update to the Universal Orlando policy, the theme park said vaccinated workers will no longer be required to wear masks “onstage, backstage, indoors or outdoors.” They, of course, still have the option to continue to wear a mask if they prefer.
It is important to note that Universal Orlando is still requiring those Team Members who are not vaccinated to wear face masks at all times while on property. This includes both inside and outside. Unvaccinated Team Members are permitted to remove their masks when eating or drinking or when they are “alone inside a private office”, per Spectrum News.
This change from Universal Orlando comes just weeks after Mayor Jerry Demings lifted the state of emergency in Orange Country and placed Orange Country in the “moderate” tier with a reported positive case found of around 550 per day.
In the moderate tier, the CDC no longer recommends that all individuals wear a face-covering indoors, regardless of vaccination status. At this time, Disney World has not made changes to its indoor mask mandates, but Inside the Magic will continue to update you as we get information.
Also, keep in mind that the Universal Orlando policy change is for Team Members only.
