Following new recommendations from the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), theme parks across the U.S. – including Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort in Florida – are revising their face mask guidelines again.

News just broke that Universal Orlando Resort will require masks of all Team Members working indoors around Guests. The theme park also details that they will encourage Guests to wear personal face coverings indoors, as well, but at this time it does not appear that masks will be required.

The announcement reads:

The health and safety of our guests and team members is always our top priority. We encourage all our guests to follow CDC guidelines and local directives to wear face coverings while indoors across our destination. Beginning Saturday, all Team Members will wear face coverings while working indoors in guest areas and all will continue to practice social distancing.

Universal Orlando had changed its face mask requirement in May of 2021, removing the outdoor mask requirement for visitors and then later, removed the indoor mandate for vaccinated Guests and Team Members. Now it looks like the theme parks (in general) are back to considering the recent CDC guidance. Keep in mind, however, that Universal is not asking Guests to prove that they vaccinated in order to go maskless; it is simply based on the honor system.

It should be noted that Universal Studios Hollywood now requires masks at all indoor locations, following a Los Angeles County mandate. Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort also recently returned to an indoor mask policy, mandating Guests and Cast Members to follow CDC recommendations of wearing masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Check with the Operations and Safety Updates page for any Universal Orlando Resort mask requirement before you go!
