Universal Orlando Resort has been making many adjustments as the world continues to navigate through the ongoing pandemic, and now, it seems that the next change has come afoot.

Most recently, Universal eliminated masks for all vaccinated Guests, temperature checks, reduced social distancing to three feet from six feet, increased capacity, and now, vaccinated Team Members will no longer need to wear masks outdoors. This change will begin as of June 5.

This announcement comes a day after Disney World made the change to allow some of their Cast Members to remove masks while outdoors. However, the range of Team Members who will be included in this change is much larger than the amount of Cast Members at Disney, as only a select few Cast Member roles have experienced the change so far.

Reporter Alicia Stella (@AliciaStella) reported on the change, noting:

Starting tomorrow, June 5, vaccinated Team Members no longer required to wear masks outdoors at Universal Orlando. ALL Team Members are still required to wear masks indoors in guest-facing areas.

From this, we can see that while indoors, Team Members will continue to wear masks if they work in a Guest-facing area, even though Guests are no longer required to wear masks indoors if fully vaccinated. If a Team Member is not fully vaccinated, they will need to continue wearing masks, regardless of if they work indoors or outdoors.

These changes will occur at Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, and CityWalk.

The announcement follows that of Mayor Jerry Demings, who recently announced that Orange County has officially entered Phase 3 of the mask removal plan that was put in place months ago. This change eliminates the need for masks both indoors and outdoors if businesses choose to adapt to the change. As Universal is a private company, they are able to decide when they would like to make any change in terms of mask-wear.
