On November 12, 2021 The Walt Disney Company hosted Disney+ Day — a celebration of their popular streaming service that launched two years ago on that date.

The company was expected to make major announcements about various upcoming movies and Disney+ Original series throughout the day, and while certain exciting news did drop — like the first sneak peek at Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series — one IP was glaringly missing.
Percy Jackson fans were convinced they would learn more about Disney’s upcoming series that was announced over a year ago but were met with crickets. And, now, they are livid about the lack of details surrounding the project.

The Walt Disney Company obtained ownership of the Percy Jackson franchise when they completed their buyout of 20th Century Fox — now 20th Century Studios — giving fans hope for a bright future for their favorite characters.
Previously, there have been two Percy Jackson films — Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010) and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013) — both featuring the acting talents of Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson), Alexandra Daddario (Annabeth), and Brandon T. Jackson (Grover).

Author Rick Riordan previously denounced both of these adaptations, indicating that he was optimistic the Disney version would adhere much more closely to his personal vision.
IMDb has shared some trivia facts about the upcoming show, including the fact that the series is expected to be an adaptation of the Camp Half-Blood series, with Season 1 focusing on The Lightning Thief. Furthermore, Disney has reportedly begun casting for the series, but no specific announcements have been made.

CCTakato expressed disappointment over Disney’s decision to leave the series out of the day’s announcements:
I won’t lie that I was disappointed we didn’t get any new info about the Percy Jackson TV series from Disney Plus Day. It was announced like a year ago but we still don’t know who the cast is or have seen any footage or anything like that.

At this time, in spite of fans’ calls for an update, Disney has yet to make any recent announcements regarding the Percy Jackson Disney+ Original series. It has not appeared on any 2022 release schedules, so is likely to debut in 2023 at the earliest.
Are you looking forward to Percy Jackson and the Olympians coming to Disney+?
