EPCOT debuted a new light sequence on Spaceship Earth just for the holiday season! Running alongside the 50th anniversary Beacons of Magic, the new holiday light show will occur every night through the end of December.

According to Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley, the new holiday light sequence will share a “nod to EPCOT holidays past” Riddley writes:

Holidays are a special time at EPCOT — a time to showcase the traditions, music, food and entertainment shared around the world. To help celebrate the launch of International Festival of the Holidays today, Imagineers developed a new lighting composition for Spaceship Earth. Adding to Beacons of Magic, guests will see some new sparkle and a nod to EPCOT holidays past.

Our team was inspired by the concept of light ushering in holiday celebrations around the world, and our Imagineering team created new programming reflective of starlight in clear winter skies and the beautiful green and blue glow of the Aurora Borealis northern lights.

Even though some fans are loving the new holiday light show on Spaceship Earth, others can’t help but mock the new light sequence — some even comparing EPCOT to Las Vegas.

For starters, Bioreconstruct shared a beautiful photo of the new holiday light show on Spaceship Earth, writing:

Reflection of candy cane Spaceship Earth.

To which many Disney fans began to share their feelings on the new holiday light show. One Twitter user, Chris M., jokingly replied:

Or, “How to turn a golf ball into a volley ball.”

And another Twitter user, Joseph M., compared EPCOT to the city that never sleeps, saying:

Epcot thinks its Las Vegas now? Face with hand over mouth

But this was not the only Tweet that Bioreconstruct Tweeted. The following series of photos shows more of what Guests can expect from the new holiday show, to which Bioreconstruct said:

New lighting of Spaceship Earth.

Fans also replied to this Tweet, still not holding back their opinions. For example, Twitter user M said:

Am I really the only one who thinks the new lighting is gaudy as hell?
Especially with this lighting, but with even the default blue, too.

The twinkling effect alone is neat.

To which Craig replied:

I also don’t like it. Sadly I didn’t know this was going to change and missed the last setup 🙁

The new limited time holiday light program, which will run alongside Disney’s 50th anniversary Beacon of Magic, will show nightly on Spaceship Earth at EPCOT through December 30, 2021.
