Disney World is getting ready to bring some new experiences to the theme parks in just a few short months when the 50th anniversary celebration rolls around.

Magic Kingdom is decking out Cinderella Castle, and Main Street, U.S.A. with stunning EARidescent colors, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have the Tower of Terror shimmering, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom will have projections on the Tree of Life. These elements will last for the duration of the 50th anniversary, which will be for a total of 18 months.
At EPCOT, however, a permanent transformation will be made at Spaceship Earth.

Spaceship Earth has had points of light installed all over the ball, which will allow the structure to shine outwards instead of having lighting projected on it at night. Now, it seems that that reveal could not come sooner as yesterday evening, the lighting on Spaceship Earth looked a little more “party-like” than usual.

Typically, the projections on Spaceship Earth are stagnant and solely light up the ball and there is no movement to the design — just pink and purple hues that illuminate it. Yesterday evening, in both the back and front of Spaceship Earth, Guests were looking at flashing lights that almost looked like a strobe.
If you take a look at the below video, taken by an Inside the Magic team member, you can see that the flashing is very prominent on Spaceship Earth.
On October 1, the new points of light will officially come to life! We can already see that all the shining lights have seemingly been installed from the base of the structure.
Personally, I cannot wait to see Spaceship Earth transform! Aside from Spaceship Earth, EPCOT will also be debuting Harmonious on October 1 and their brand-new attraction in the France pavilion, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.
What do you think of Spaceship Earth’s rave-like lighting? Have you ever seen this at EPCOT before?
