The new service is free with an available upgrade option, confusingly called Genie+. This “plus” option has a flat fee of $15 a person per day of use. A user will be able to have Lightning Lane access (AKA what was previously known as FastPass queue access) for a variety of attractions. Read ALL the details on the attractions HERE!

For certain attractions with high demand (example: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios), there will be an à la carte Lightning Lane selection for purchase, giving you access to a time to arrive at up to two highly demanded attractions each day across multiple theme parks. Pricing for this upgraded Genie service option will vary by date, attraction ride, and theme park.

The Genie+ option will also include an audio experience and unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads, so Guests are getting a similar experience to the much-loved Disneyland App MaxPass option enjoyed for years at Disneyland Resort. Disney has described Disney Genie+ at Disney World and Disneyland as the next iteration of MaxPass.

The Disability Access Service (DAS) program will also be integrated into Disney Genie, including new options to enroll in the program pre-arrival and for DAS participants to select attractions directly in the app. These options will be available in addition to Disney’s existing, in-person DAS program.

Disney Genie and Lighting Lane Queues

As FastPass+ lane signage is being removed at each Park, we’re seeing Lightning Lane entrance signs, stickers, and stanchions being installed all over Walt Disney World Resort. FastPass+ kiosks have been pulled out in each of the theme park areas, and it looks like Disney is really streamlining the MagicMobile experience.

As Lightning Lane is replacing FastPass queues visually, the start date of the Genie service will really dictate the replacement of the existing system. We’ve already seen that the virtual queue for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance paused for an unknown time on September 23, 2021.
