FastPasses are gone, and Disney Genie is here with a “whole new world” for the Guest experience.

As previously announced, both FastPass/FastPass+ at Walt Disney World Resort and FASTPASS/MaxPass at Disneyland Resort will be retired and instead, Genie + and Lightning Lanes will debut — paid services. Disney Genie+ will be a part of the new, massive Disney Genie program, a digital service designed to create your best Disney day.

Now, Disney has released more information regarding the Disney Genie and exactly how it will work for you.

What Makes a Great Day

Built into Disney’s existing Park apps

The exciting new service is built into the already existing My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps, and will be available either pre-arrival as part of a ticket or vacation package add-on. If you use Academy Travel, or another Disney-authorized travel agent, they can add that into your package. Once the individual Lightning Lane passes are available each day, Guests will only be allowed to purchase them through the apps on the day of their visit only.

Plan your day for you

Now, this is the amazing part. Disney Genie will literally plan your Disney Parks day for you. The service features a personalized itinerary creator that effortlessly and smartly maps out an entire day.  Just check off the things you want to do for that day and then Disney Genie will plan it for you!

It is essentially a magical algorithm that creates thousands of ways Guests can visit the Disney Parks and then customizes your day’s itinerary based on YOUR interests.

Similar to a navigation app on your phone, Disney Genie continues to update your itinerary from morning to night as the day changes, so you can stay spontaneous and go with the flow – whether you need a nap, encounter an unexpected rain shower that closes an attraction you wanted to ride next, or want to take a detour for a Mickey ice cream bar.

So, check off your wishlist — such as Disney Princess meet and greets, thrill rides, or specific dining requirements — and let Disney Genie do the hard work for you!

And don’t worry, it also adjusts what it is recommending throughout the day, so it won’t recommend something to TOO many Guests!

Spend less time in line

One of the main goals of Disney Genie is to help you spend less in line at attractions and experiences. It will show you the lowest wait times throughout the day, and whether you use Disney Genie+ or standby queues, you can rest assured that you are up-to-date with the best guide to what to ride at that time.
The new service will also recommend nearby experiences, based on your wishlist. Based on distance, or even the weather, it will let you know what to do and when. If it’s a hot day and you want air conditioning, you can head to PhilharMagic. If Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed for weather reasons, Disney Genie will recommend an indoor ride instead. And it will also forecast wait times, so you can plan ahead for your day and take advantage of different experiences based on when it is ideal for you and your party.
And virtual queues? You can join them, too, via Disney Genie.

Find YOUR best Dining options

Another great feature is the more streamlined approach to dining reservations, check-ins, and wait times.
Guests can search all the dining for one Disney Park at once, and see all the available options on one screen. You can see every restaurant waitlist and reservation in one handy place, customized to your preferences, as well as do mobile orders.

A friend like Disney Genie

These features are all just the complementary offerings from Disney Genie!
As well as the above planning tools, Genie offers a virtual assistant to augment your experience, as well as a switch for accessibility and height requirements, to really cater for your needs.
And it won’t JUST give you recommendations and tips – Disney Genie will also tell you WHY it is suggesting each plan or itinerary.

So, in summary, Disney Genie free service conveniently brings together all-new features and existing offerings such as:
• Personalized itinerary planning
• Continually updated tip board
• Forecasted future wait times for attractions
• Virtual assistant
• Mobile order
• Restaurant wait list, check-in and reservations

Lightning Lanes and Disney Genie+

Disney Genie+ will be a paid system that will charge Disney World Guests $15.00 per person per day, and Disneyland Guests $20.00 per person per day, to utilize the Lighting Lane, which will be the old FastPass+/FASTPASS queue. Walt Disney World and Disneyland Guests will be able to pick one return time at a time for select attractions and skip the lines when their turn arrives.

Further “à la carte” selections will also be available, but prices will vary by date, attraction and park. For example, Lightning Lane entrance to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will be $9 per person on Oct. 19 and $11 per person on Oct. 23.  Throughout the year, prices may be lower on some days and higher on other days. This option may be purchased at up to two different attractions each day.
