This is Halloween! This is Halloween!
Halloween at Disneyland, of course!

This year, Halloween Time is BACK at the Disneyland Resort! And we have the scoop on every spooky detail you need to know for this not-so-scary season at the Happiest Place on Earth. Mickey’s Halloween Party may be a thing of the past, but there is still so much fun to be had during Halloween at Disneyland, from Oogie Boogie Bash and Halloween at Cars Land to Haunted Mansion Holiday and the Halloween Screams firework show.

Whether you will be traveling with kids, your significant other, your friends, or just on your own, you will enjoy Halloween at Disney! And, of course, the Disney Parks are a great way to spend a safe Halloween.
Follow along in our 2021 Disneyland Halloween guide as we share all of the spooktacular sights, sounds, shows, and more.
Remember: Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort this year runs from September 3 though October 31.

Halloween Decorations at Disneyland
Every Halloween season, Disneyland Resort goes above and beyond with the Disney Halloween decorations. Several areas of the theme parks — from Main Street, U.S.A., and Buena Vista Street to Cars Land and Frontierland — are decked out in seasonal fall decor.

Perhaps the most iconic and recognizable Halloween decoration at the Disney Parks is the Mickey Mouse pumpkin. Guests come from far and wide to see this adorable smiling Mickey at the top of Main Street. Located in Town Square, typically where the Christmas tree sits during the holiday season, the Mickey pumpkin smiles and winks at Guests as they enter and exit the theme park. And it makes for some amazing photo opportunities!

And, of course, we can’t discuss Halloween decor at Disney Parks without mentioning Cars Land. The cutest (or should we say spookiest?) little town in Carburetor County turns delightfully ghoulish every Halloween.

Seasonal Overlays For Disneyland Attractions During Halloween
Several attractions at Disneyland Resort are overlayed with a special, seasonal Halloween theme during the spookiest time of year. Here is what you can experience in 2021.
Note that Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy is another Halloween overlay at the Disneyland Resort. However, Ghost Galaxy is not occurring during the 2021 Halloween season. So, Guests visiting Disneyland can look forward to experiencing the classic Space Mountain ride without a Halloween overlay this year.
Haunted Mansion Holiday
The Haunted Mansion is a Guest-favorite attraction at the Disneyland Resort. It is the very first Haunted Mansion at the Disney Parks, and, for most of the year, Guests can meet the 999 happy haunts at this classic New Orleans Square attraction in all of its original glory.

But every year, from the Halloween season through the holidays, the Haunted Mansion completely transforms into the Haunted Mansion Holiday. Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king himself, arrives at Disneyland from Halloween Town every year — and the Haunted Mansion Holiday invites Guests of all ages to enter a world where two holidays collide.

Below is the official description, per the Disneyland website:
Decked Out for the Hallow-Days
Pumpkin King Jack Skellington has been busy decorating the Haunted Mansion with frightfully festive touches inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Experience some of your favorite sights, special seasonal surprises—and scare-aracters from the movie. Sally, Oogie Boogie and other Nightmare nasties will be on hand to wish you “Season’s Screamings!”
This year also marks the 20th presentation of Haunted Mansion Holiday!

Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark
While Haunted Mansion Holiday is a classic seasonal overlay, there is nothing quite as thrilling as Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. Note that you do not need a ticket to Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party in order to experiece the Halloween overlay of this Avengers Campus attraction.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is located in Disney California Adventure. This attraction took over the attraction that was formerly known as The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, but take our word for it when we say that the Halloween overlay for Mission: BREAKOUT! is frightening in its own right.
Below is the official description from Disney:
A Fiendishly Frightening Escape
Do you have what it takes to save Groot from crazed creatures on the loose?
Amid the chaos of the Guardians of the Galaxy’s rescue attempt, Groot got left behind. Even worse, the Collector’s Fortress is now mired in a total state of emergency—and overrun with menacing beasts.Your objective? Team up with Rocket to return to the fortress, distract the monsters and escape with his little buddy in tow—but proceed with caution. With the Guardians of the Galaxy involved, the plan is bound to run into a few exciting ups and downs!
Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween
If you like Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, you will love the seasonal overlay for this attraction! It has enough spooks and laughs for all ages.
Per the Disneyland website:
Got monster mash-worthy moves? Head to Cars Land this fall for Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween, a ghoulishly grand song ‘n’ dance bash guaranteed to wake the dead… batteries, of course! While his kooky cugini (aka, cousins) give Guests a spooktacular spin around the dance floor, Luigi and Guido add a haunted twist to traditional songs and stories from the old country—including the “Terror-antella,” “The Chop Top of Carsoli” and more.
Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree
The fourth attraction receiving the spooky treatment in 2021 is Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree (appropriately known during Halloween Time as Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree). Like Luigi’s, Mater’s is perfect for the little ones as it provides just enough happy haunts for even the youngest of Guests.

Below is Disney’s official description:
Don’t miss the down-home jamboree that’s tons of fun for all makes and models! Dying to do a spine-tinglin’ twirl? This fall, boo-step on over to Cars Land for Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree, a haunted hootenanny featuring high-spirited Haul-O-Ween music.
While tractor-trailer dance partners swirl Guests around the graveyard, Mater becomes the life of the party by crooning creepy country tunes with a Haul-O-Ween twist—including “Welcome to Radiator Screams,” “Monster Truck Smash” and other frightfully delightfully dark ditties. Ghosties beware… this junkyard-turned-graveyard is filled with tombstone grills that beckon you to “rust-in-peace!”
Halloween Characters at Disneyland
Fall is a favorite time of year for Disneyland Guests because it is a season when all of the characters dress in their spooky best! Of course, you can see the classic Disney characters dressed in their Halloween costumes, but you can also spot some pretty spectacular Disney Villains.

Typically, in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, you will see Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Daisy Duck, Chip, and Dale, all dressed in their special Halloween costumes. You can also see Miguel from Coco celebrating Dia de Los Muertos, and even Lightning McQueen and Mater join in the seasonal fun. As we mentioned, there are plenty of villainous encounters, as well. You may see Facilier, the Queen of Hearts, Cruella De Vil, and a variety of other Disney Villains.

And, of course, no Halloween season is complete without Jack Skellington and Sally!
Disneyland Halloween and Fall Entertainment, Shows, and More
One of the main reasons why we love visiting Disney Parks in the fall is all of the seasonal entertainment. Like always, entertainment is not something that Disneyland is lacking! Fall and Halloween, specifically, bring about some epic and immersive seasonal and cultural celebrations.

Keep reading for more information on Halloween offerings (including Halloween Screams and Oogie Boogie Bash) as well as cultural offerings for the fall season (specifically, how Disney celebrates Dia de Los Muertos every year).
Halloween Screams Projection Show and Fireworks
In the past, Guests could only watch Halloween Screams, the spooky season’s projection and firework show, if they attended Mickey’s Halloween Party, a separately ticketed event. But now that Oogie Boogie Bash is the Disney Halloween Party held on select nights throughout the season at Disney California Adventure, Disneyland displays Halloween Screams at the original Magic Kingdom. The best part? You can watch the show with a regular Park ticket!

Per Disneyland’s official website:
Presented throughout Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort, this wicked display is a true Halloween treat for Guests of all ages.
Your nocturnal delight kicks off with an eerie greeting from your “Master of Scare-omonies” Jack Skellington and his ghostly dog Zero—spirits from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. As Jack and Zero fade into the night leaving you to enjoy what’s to come, settle in and embrace the jump-worthy collision of sights and sounds—soaring flames, projections of rising ghosts and classic Disney villains like Maleficent and Ursula the Sea Witch—all set to a medley of Halloween-inspired songs… one showstopper after another.
Finally, as you reach the grand finale, there’s no need to be shy. Feel free to sing—or scream―along! Plus, on select nights, you’ll also be able to watch sparkling fireworks possess the sky.
Dia de Los Muertos and Plaza de la Familia

Every year, Disneyland Resort celebrates Dia de Los Muertos with festivities and cultural celebrations that last all throughout the fall season. These celebrations are unique to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure and provide Guests with an opportunity to celebrate and honor these cultural traditions. The celebrations also feature the Disney-Pixar film Coco!
Below is the official information about Dia de Los Muertos at Disneyland Park:
Join the festivities as Frontierland hosts a very special tribute to Día de los Muertos! The holiday is a time to remember loved ones that have passed, while we embrace our eternal connections.
To commemorate the occasion, El Zócalo Park will feature iconic skeleton figurines called calacas—depicting a trio of mariachi musicians—as well as brightly colored flowers and other decorative items seen in traditional ofrendas on the Day of the Dead. You can even savor the traditional flavors of Mexico as you dine at nearby Rancho del Zócalo Restaurante.
From the authentic décor to delicious home-style dishes, you won’t want to miss this heartfelt celebration of Día de los Muertos.

Here is Disney’s description of Plaza de la Familia at Disney California Adventure Park:
At Paradise Gardens in Disney California Adventure Park Disney and Pixar’s Academy Award®-winning film, Coco, comes to life at Plaza de la Familia, an immersive celebration of the everlasting bonds of family.
In between performances of A Musical Celebration of Coco, you can meet and create special memories with the film’s main character, Miguel, and post personal messages to your loved ones on the Memory Wall.
Then stroll over to the iconic Mexican Árbol de la Vida (Tree of Life) to take a photo and design your own paper alebrije masks of Dante and Pepita, spirit guides from Coco. Enjoy stirring Mariachi concerts performed on the bandstand while you dine on delicious Mexican food at Paradise Garden Grill.
Oogie Boogie Bash
While Walt Disney World Resort has Disney After Hours Boo Bash this year, Disneyland Resort has Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party!

The second-ever Oogie Boogie Bash is being hosted at Disney California Adventure in 2021, and fans of this Disney Halloween Party couldn’t be more thrilled.
You may remember Mickey’s Halloween Party, the annual ticketed event that was hosted annually at Disneyland Park. Now, Guests can look forward to the newest Halloween event at the Disneyland Resort: Oogie Boogie Bash.

Below is the official description:
Don your favorite costume for a frightfully fun night of Characters, tricks and treats for Guests of all ages.
The spell’s been cast! On select nights this September and October, Disney California Adventure Park will host a separately ticketed, Halloween spooktacular that includes after-hours park access to treat trails, photo opportunities, entertainment, attractions, décor and more.
So, whether you’re a poised princess, galactic defender or fearless hero, there’s something incredible for all. Choose from 25 exciting nights—as ticket availability is limited, be sure to get yours while supplies last!
