Taika Waititi may be one of the most in-demand writer-directors right now. From his Emmy-nominated hit show What We Do in the Shadows (2019) to writing and directing the upcoming Marvel film Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) and writing a new Star Wars film, it seems that there is nothing Waititi can’t do.

Taika Waititi’s talent and superb ability to shape an extraordinary film do not go unnoticed by the very talented actors who work with him. One of those actors is Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) star Chris Pratt. Pratt recently sat down and spoke to Variety about what it was like to work with the director.
He continued to gush over Waititi, calling him a “madman” and “genius.”
“He is the kind of guy who can deliver an amazing movie…That’s the destination,” Pratt said. “The journey to getting there [is] just as fun as watching the movie. He’s vibrant, he’s always making the crew laugh, he’s doing bits. You can’t believe he’s the director.”

Pratt recently worked with Waititi on the set of Thor: Love and Thunder — which Waititi says will be the best Marvel film to date. While not much is known about the new film, we do know that Pratt’s Star-Lord will not be the only Guardian of the Galaxy making an appearance. Vin Diesel confirmed that his character Groot will also be in the film.

The Thor/Guardians team-up makes sense, since the last time we saw them in Avengers: Endgame (2019), Thor had decided not to rule Asgard and had passed the reins to Valyrie — played by Tessa Thompson. Thor then boarded Benatar, the ship used by the Guardians after theirs was destroyed, and the new group takes off.

Taiki Waititi has spoken of his love for Thor: Love and Thunder but admits that he is not sure if a fifth Thor film will happen. Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2022, with Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 coming out one year later on May 23, 2023. The events that occur in Thor: Love and Thunder will probably play a large role in how events are set up for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3.
