Cast Member Accidentally Completes Entire Disney 5K, Wins Medal!

Recently, Disney Cruise Line returned to sailing in the United Kingdom with Magic at Sea cruises — these “cruises to nowhere” have no ports of call, and are not legally allowed in the United States.

However, Disney recently confirmed that the Disney Dream will be setting sail again with Guests on August 9, 2021 — with the Disney Wonder and the Disney Fantasy following —  after the cruise operator’s successful test cruises!

Today, one Disney Cruise Line Cast Member, who has already returned to sea, found himself in the middle of a crew member 5K race — quite unexpectedly — while taking a break from his workday. Mike Patierno shared on Facebook:

I went for a walk on deck 4 today and it turns out there was a crew 5K that I forgot was happening and that’s how I accidentally walked a 5K in jeans and a fedora while Mickey and Minnie cheered me on. What a day. #disneycruiseline #disneycruiseship #cruiseshiplife

Patierno was cheered on by delighted characters, including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Goofy! The Cast Member even got a medal for accidentally completing the race.

Although this particular onboard 5K was for crew members, Disney Cruise Line is well known for its Castaway Cay 5K, which Guests can participate in.

The Castaway Cay 5K is offered weather permitting when you visit Disney’ Castaway Cay. You will make your way past swaying palms as you run or walk along the air strip to the observation tower and take the lead past sweeping shorelines to the finish line. All finishers receive an exclusive Disney Castaway Cay 5K medal.

Before the event, Disney will have you complete a required release waiver to participate. Once signed, you’ll receive a Castaway Cay 5K race bib and will be asked to review the 5K course during your cruise. Please be sure to check the Personal Navigator or the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app for more information, including specific times and location information once onboard.

Next year, Disney Cruise Line passengers will be able to run the Castaway Cay Challenge while cruising on the Disney Wish, which will be based in Port Canaveral.  This first Triton Class ship will take her maiden voyage in June 2022.

This all-new luxury liner features a first-of-its-kind Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge, a Toy Story splash pad just for kids, and incredible Frozen and Marvel dining experiences for the whole family!

The Wish will be the fifth ship in the DCL fleet, joining the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy, the Disney Magic, and the Disney Wonder.
