Yesterday, Disney Cruise Line officially set sail for the first time since early 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic caused the Disney Dream, the Disney Magic, the Disney Fantasy, and the Disney Wonder to halt operations.
Although a domestic return to sailing date in the United States has not yet been scheduled — and Disney Cruise Line recently postponed its planned test cruise on the Disney Dream out of Port Canaveral — Disney Magic at Sea cruises have gotten underway in the United Kingdom!
It is important to note that these staycation cruises on the Disney Magic are only open to U.K. residents — cruises with no ports of call are not allowed by law in the United States of America.
Furthermore, Guests who choose to book Magic at Sea itineraries must abide by a variety of pandemic-related health and safety protocols, including practicing social distancing and providing proof of vaccination against COVID-19.
Yesterday, test cruises — with volunteer Disney Cast Members as passengers — for the Magic at Sea experience began and many of those onboard took to social media to share their excitement! Paying passengers will begin boarding on July 15.
Today, Disney Cruise Line welcomes back its first Guests in over a year for our first Test Cruise out of Southampton! It’s been quite a journey getting here but now that the day has arrived, I can’t stop smiling! Here we GO! Wish us luck
So, so happy to be on the first DCL sailing since March 2020
Emily shared an emotional post about her return to sailing:
Yesterday was the first time in 479 days since Disney Cruise Line welcomed back their first guests onboard the Disney Magic for 1 of 2 test cruises before we go live on the 15th.
To be part of the reopening team to bring the first ship back in the fleet has been a rollercoaster of emotions to say the least but I’m so freaking pumped to be here and so proud of all the hard work we have put into this over the last 10 weeks!
Who’s lucky enough to come and sail on the Disney Magic for the UK Staycation season?
Although the future of Disney Cruise Line in the United States is uncertain for the remainder of 2021, DCL is planning a huge return to the high seas in 2022, including the maiden voyage of the first Triton Class Disney cruise ship, the Disney Wish, in June 2022.
This newest ship will feature a variety of exciting spaces for passengers of all ages, including the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge that will transport you to a galaxy far, far away, a Toy Story splash zone for little ones, and a Frozen-themed theatrical dining experience to inspire the entire family!
