Disneyland Resort has finally reopened after being closed for more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the first time (in forever), Guests finally entered the Disneyland Park gates today — and some of them headed straight for a galaxy far, far away at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Surprisingly, crowds at the popular 14-acre Disneyland Park expansion were relatively low for the most part on reopening day. Inside the Magic was on the ground for Disneyland’s grand reopening and had no trouble getting a boarding group for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance — we were also able to walk onto the other Galaxy’s Edge ride, Millennium Falcon – Smugglers Run.

Below, the lower than average crowds of Star Wars fans near the 100-foot-long replica of Han Solo and Chewbacca’s Millennium Falcon starship are apparent. Although a few Guests can be spotted taking selfies in front of the famous Star Wars ship, the PhotoPass Cast Member is not busy whatsoever in this photo — during busier times, there is often a line for a PhotoPass shot with the Falcon!

In this image, below, it’s easy to see that the outdoor seating area — with safely socially distanced tables — was one of the most popular spots at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge today. At this time, face masks are required for all Disneyland Resort Guests age 2 and up unless they are in a stationary position while actively eating or drinking (a Ronto Roasters wrap or some blue milk on Batuu, of course!).

Walt Disney World Resort’s new face mask guidelines for outdoor photos do NOT apply at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park at this time.

It is worth noting that some areas of Galaxy’s Edge were busier than others, such as the pathway featured below. Nonetheless, even in these more crowded spaces, Guests were clearly keeping their distance from one another, per social distancing requirements. Many Guests in this land were heading to or from the most state-of-the-art attraction in the land, Rise of the Resistance.

At this time, Disneyland Resort’s two theme parks are operating at 25% capacity with both park reservations and valid theme park admission required, and are open to California residents only for the time being.
