What a treat the latest episode of WandaVision was.
Heavy spoilers for WandaVision Episode 7 ahead.
Things are heating up in Westview from all angles. However, it was the reveal of the neighborly lady, Agnes, that might have caught some of you off guard.
Yup, Agnes is Agatha Harkness
WandaVision has now finally confirmed the rumors that Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) is in fact Agatha Harkness. As we astutely pointed out a few weeks ago, the little hints that WandaVision dropped along the way actually pointed to her true identity.
The brooch, the witches hat, and the fact that she knew what was going on all along — It all pointed to her being a lesser-known Marvel comics character and we were all right.
She even gets her own version of the WandaVision intro called ‘Agnes all Along!’ It also seems that Harkness will indeed be taking on a villainous role alongside Director Hayward (who we still totally think is Ultron).
What does WandaVision Episode 7 mean?
Episode 7 revealed several game-changing things. However, the wildest is definitely the reveal of Agnes as Agatha Harkness. Through a quick montage, we see that she was behind “everything that went wrong” including the return of Evan Peters as Quicksilver.
This may unfortunately mean that this Pietro Maximoff is just a figment and not really from the Fox X-Men multiverse. Bummer. However, this has yet to be confirmed so don’t count Peters out just yet.
Agnes was also responsible for the antics in Episode 2. She even killed Sparky the puppy! If that isn’t bad, we don’t know what is. Notably, Billy (Wanda and Vision’s son) notes that she is quiet on the inside which seems to spook her. We know that Billy (Wiccan) has a variation on Wanda’s powers while Tommy (Speed) seems to channel his uncle Quicksilver’s abilities.
Who is Agatha Harkness?
In Marvel Comics Agatha Harkness is a powerful witch. She’s sometimes a villain and has on occasion helped out the Avengers and even trained Scarlet Witch. Notably, she’s also crossed paths with The Fantastic Four, leading some to believe WandaVision will help set up the new team.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s take on Agatha seems to put her firmly in the villain category. Her reality-bending and mind control abilities seem to function similarly to Wanda’s, though she has a witch’s cellar filled with ancient-looking artifacts.
While everything can change in the next two episodes, we’d put our money on Agatha being the main antagonist of the show now. It also stands to reason that a major magic-based threat might catch the attention of one Doctor Strange, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Until then, we’re loving following Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), Jimmy Woo (Randall Park), and an apparently superpowered Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) as they uncover the mystery with us.
WandaVision is a Disney+ exclusive starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. New episodes stream on Fridays.
