As EPCOT continues to progress through its massive revamp, Walt Disney World officials are making it clear that its second-oldest park will see dramatic and exciting changes to its look and overall Guest experience.
During D23’s virtual event, “EPCOT – The Magic of Possibility,” fans were given the latest scoop on the latest ways EPCOT’s look and feel will evolve.
Here are some of the biggest takeaways.
New Fountain and Lighting Scheme on Spaceship Earth
According to Zach Riddley, Imagineering Portfolio Executive for Walt Disney World Resort:
“This fountain will feature a new lighting design that will extenuate the culture elements at night and our team can not wait to reveal this to the world…This lighting design will allow us to create custom programming that connects this icon of EPCOT to its surroundings and perfectly encapsulates the parks transformation. Again, taking this symbol of optimism and hope and collaboration across culture and time and really creating a unique evening moment that again will make EPCOT such a defining feature at night.”

Enter “Remy’s Paris” at Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
Yes, the France Pavilion will get much more than just a new attraction, it will get what Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald calls a whole new mini-land in which Guests will step out of the “real world” Paris and into Remy’s romanticized version of the city of lights beginning with the recreation of a setting that was cut out of the Ratatouille film.

Permanent Show Barges in World Showcase Lagoon
EPCOT Guests will not just be treated to a new nighttime spectacle, HarmonioUS, but also a daytime fountain show!
According to Riddley, and Melissa Valiquette, Vice President of EPCOT, some of the massive barges built for HarmonioUS will be placed permanently in the center of World Showcase Lagoon and will provide a new fountain show throughout the day.
New Perspectives with Guardians and Space 220
Outside of World Showcase, progress continues on two highly-anticipated projects in the new neighborhood called World Discovery: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and the restaurant Space 220.
It was explained that the Guardians attraction will feature a ride vehicle called an “Omnicoaster.” A descendant of the doom buggy from The Haunted Mansion, the Omnicoaster’s technology allows Imagineers to turn the vehicle on the coaster track in order to help tell a definite story from a definite perspective.
Sitting adjacent to Mission: SPACE, Space 220 will also work to force new perspectives, taking Guests to what appears to be a restaurant 220 miles above the earth.

As for when we should expect these changes to be completed, Disney remains mostly silent for now, vaguely pointing to 2021 as the completion year. We at Inside the Magic will update our readers as more information comes to light.
