Walt Disney wanted to build a community of tomorrow that would never be completed. He wanted a place where people could live and work and to demonstrate and then introduce new ideas and new systems. And that is exactly what EPCOT is.
During the 2019 D23 Expo, Bob Chapek and Zach Riddley announced several big projects coming to EPCOT — Some of which we have already seen and some of which are coming soon. Now, we have more information regarding the new overhaul coming to the theme park.
During today’s D23 Fantastic Worlds Celebration event titled “EPCOT – The Magic of Possibility,” Zach Riddley, Imagineering Portfolio Executive for Walt Disney World Resort, and Melissa Valiquette, Vice President of EPCOT shared some fun things Guests can expect at the overhaul of EPCOT, previously announced.
When talking about what’s to come to the soon-to-be World Celebration section, which includes a brand new, enhanced lighting packed for Spaceship Earth!
According to Imagineer Zach Riddley, a new and enhanced lighting package will soon be installed on the exterior of Spaceship Earth, EPCOT’s icon. He said, “And this fountain will feature a new lighting design that will extenuate the culture elements at night and our team can not wait to reveal this to the world.”
He continued, “And speaking of night, to complement the design of world celebration out ream are beginning work on an enhanced lighting package coming to the exterior of Spaceship Earth that will activate this area of the park like never before. This lighting design will allow us to create custom programming that connects this icon of EPCOT to its surroundings and perfectly encapsulates the parks transformation. Again, taking this symbol of optimism and hope and collaboration across culture and time and really creating a unique evening moment that again will make EPCOT such a defining feature at night.”
