Universal has announced that its latest film in the Jurassic World franchise will be delayed a full year than previously announced.

Yes, Jurassic World: Dominion is now expected to be released on June 10, 2022.

The sixth overall film in the Jurassic Park series gave signs of hope when Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and the rest of the cast and crew returned to production in England on July 6, becoming one of the first blockbuster projects to do so after the pandemic shutdown.

According to Variety, it is now three weeks away from wrapping.

Picking up where Fallen Kingdom left off–a world now filled with the genetically engineered dinosaurs of Isla Nublar–this next installment has promised to have the heroes of the original Jurassic Park trilogy return with Sam Neill reprising his role as Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern reprising her role as Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Jeff Goldblum reprising his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm. It is still being directed by Colin Trevorrow with Steven Spielberg on as Executive Producer.

Trevorrow tweeted the following in response to the announcement:

For the past three months, I’ve worked with an extraordinary cast and crew on a film we can’t wait to share with the world. Even though we’ll have to wait a bit longer, it will all be worth it. Let’s stay healthy and take care of each other until then.

This news also comes as the new Jurassic World-themed roller coaster, the VeliciCoaster, gets closer and closer to completion at the Jurassic Park section of Islands of Adventure at Universal Orlando Resort in Florida.

Jurassic World: Dominion is the lasted major blockbuster to delay its release, following several Disney, and Marvel projects such as Black Widow, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, James Cameron’s Avatar sequel, and Raya and the Last Dragon
