How Much of Disney World Has to Be Open

Disney Springs began a phased reopening on May 20. And while there is not yet a reopening date set for the theme parks and resorts at Walt Disney World, it sounds like Disney is considering all of its options when it comes to reopening.

Disney Parks recently began surveying guests with upcoming June vacations to Disney World, asking questions like which attractions would cause them to cancel their trips if they were to be closed next month. But Disney isn’t the only one with that topic on the brain. We recently asked our Inside the Magic readers how much of Walt Disney World Resort has to be open for them to visit.

How much of Walt Disney World has to be open for you to take a vacation?

Would you still visit Disney World in the next few months if only certain parks and resorts were open? Or would you rather wait to take your vacation when everything on Disney property is back up and running?

Some of the responses would not come as a surprise to a die-hard Disney fan who is missing the magic:

“I’ll go to whatever Disney opens as soon as it opens!”

Magic Kingdom for sure…”

”Any part…just wanna go.”

“I’ll go if they just open hotels. Momma needs a vacay!”

If the resorts are open, we are there!”

“At least one park.”

“I’m okay with just Spaceship Earth and a bathroom.”

”Anything is better than being in just the same spot on my couch for 8 weeks.”

“I would go anytime! Reopening day.”

“I would go with the parks closed and just the resorts open. I need a vacation so badly!”

While others said that they would rather wait:

“For the price, everything needs to be open.”

“At least two years or vaccine first.”

“Everything needs to be open and able to run at full capacity.”

“Depends, are they reducing rate for a reduced experience?”

“I’d rather wait until next year when it’s business as usual.”

”The parks need to open before we can consider going.”

“All of it if I’m paying full price.”

How Soon Could Massive Magic Kingdom Expansion Happen?

As for us at Inside the Magic, our team is ready to be back at the Disney Parks abiding by health and safety protocols as soon as we can. We trust that Disney will open the gates when it is right — and with the health and safety of guests and Cast Members as a top priority.

Keep in mind that at the time of this article’s publication, Walt Disney World Resort has not yet officially reopened to the public. Currently, there is no reopening date set for the Disney theme parks, and Disney has reiterated that there is “limited visibility” for when Disney World will reopen.

At this time, it is unclear how exactly Disney World will look with it reopens. We are not yet sure in what capacity the theme parks will be operating, whether they will open fully to the public or locals only, and how closely Disney World will follow Shanghai Disneylands lead when it comes to health and safety protocol amid the pandemic.

Still, we continue to remain hopeful and we are excited to finally get to visit Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios as soon as it is safe to do so, no matter how they will look.

What do you think? Are you ready to be back at the Disney Parks, regardless of how different they may be when they reopen? Or are you planning to wait a while before your next vacation? Let us know in the comments!
