Whether you’re an original Aussie fan or an American Disney+ subscriber, you undoubtedly know the name “Bluey.” For the past 154 episodes, the Heeler family has been a major part of popular culture, but the new minisodes have left some fans grinding their teeth.

Characters include Bluey, a blue dog; Bingo, a brown one; and others like a gray dog and a colorful owl. Pastel backgrounds set the scene for these Disney+ mini adventures.

As Australia’s greatest export since beef, wheat, and bowie knives, Bluey naturally premieres its episodes in its native country first on BBC One and ABC. However, Disney+ broke that tradition today as seven of the twenty promised minisodes premiered on Disney+, leaving Australian audiences waiting for the final two.

At face value, this really isn’t as devastating as it sounds, but it did garner a big reaction from Bluey’s backyard. Australian-American creator and Bluey influencer Aussie Girl Margie gives a solid rundown on the recent reactions of the show’s native fanbase in the video below.

Big Mad Over Bluey

As pointed out above, Australian audiences were apparently quite upset about missing two of the new Bluey minisodes, “Muffin Unboxing” and “Three Pigs.” While American audiences and those in the land down under received the last few episodes of season three simultaneously, this marks the first time Disney+ and its subscribers beat the Aussies to the punch.

Australian fans were so shocked and appalled by missing their favorite cartoon dog that social media soon became ablaze with the sparks of a Bluey flame war. Users on the r/Bluey subreddit were certainly not quiet about the matter.

u/Wotmate01 (seen in the footage above) had the following criticism regarding the missing minisodes. The user writes,

“And I am FURIOUS right now. Two minisodes, Muffin Unboxing, and 3 Little Pigs, haven’t been released in Australia. In all seriousness, this is a travesty. For so long, we’ve had to suffer and wait, even for stuff that was made here. The Lego movie, Farscape, the Matrix trilogy, and even the Star Wars prequels were ALL made in Australia and all released here after the US. We finally have something that’s made here that is released here first, and the Americans are taking it away from us! I encourage all Australians to get on the official Bluey and ABC socials and properly complain about this. I already have.”

Of course, these comments are made in jest, as it was likely a scheduling error on the part of ABC or BBC. Even so, Aussie Girl Margie points out that there seem to be no plans to release them on ABC iView, which might be the cause of most of the frustration.

In hindsight, this fandom outburst only proves how much Bluey means to millions of people. However, she doesn’t belong to one continent alone.

Because of Disney’s involvement, Bluey has had a massive fan following beyond its native shores. While not everyone might subscribe to BBC or ABC iView, the name “Disney” is known worldwide.

It’s safe to say that Australian audiences won’t have to wait too long before the episodes are released; it just wouldn’t be practical to leave the series unfinished. After all, there are still 13 minisodes to come.
