A Disneyland Resort guest suffered a severe burn when debris from a fireworks show burned through his clothing. The incident made some Disney Parks fans reconsider Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park’s safety protocols.

Fireworks spectaculars light up the sky over Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park on select nights throughout the year. They include special New Year’s Eve and 4th of July displays, Halloween Screams, Mickey’s Mix Magic, Wondrous Journeys, and, currently, “Believe…In Holiday Magic.” Check the Disneyland Resort entertainment schedule for updated showtimes.

“Behold the magic of the holidays as festive fireworks, stirring music and a sprinkling of snow bring the season to life—from November 10, 2023 to January 7, 2024,” Disneyland Resort writes. “Feel your spirit soar during this splendid pyrotechnical spectacle. As the sky overhead lights up with dazzling color, more than 80,000 twinkling lights illuminate Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle with sparkling ‘icicles’ and shimmering snow-capped turrets.”

“As a special wintry treat, experience a magical snowfall all around you when you head over to “it’s a small world” Holiday and portions of the Main Street, U.S.A. area! Celebrate the holiday season in grand style at this joyous jubilee in lights!”

Guest Injury

Life instantly changed for a man watching one of Disneyland Park’s numerous fireworks shows. In a recent comment, Reddit user u/PRGTROLL shared that their friend was burned by airborne debris from a rogue firework.

“My friend was hit in the arm with a firework,” the Disney Parks fans wrote. “Hole in shirt & skin blister.”

In response, one Disney Parks fan shared their concern about safety during Disneyland Park fireworks and other nighttime spectaculars, like World of Color at Disney California Adventure Park.

“During the Halloween firework show I was standing behind the castle looking up and something fell in my eye,” u/slowdancequeen said. “I wasn’t hurt or anything but it was kinda scary.”

The incident follows a similar accident at Walt Disney World Resort this month. A guest riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was hit in the head with smoking debris during the Happily Ever After fireworks at Magic Kingdom Park. The woman’s family captured the remarkable moment on video, which can be viewed here.

While Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort follow all fireworks safety protocols, there is an inherent risk in even the most controlled explosions. Though rare, accidents happen. Notify a Disney cast member immediately if you believe fireworks have injured you.
