Star Wars is about ready to delve into something extraordinary with their new series, but Disney can’t greenlight the next chapter without recasting one Star Wars actor who sadly passed away.

Dave Filoni has set the stage for his next Star Wars story after weaving storylines together in the last decade. After telling stories set during the Clone Wars, Filoni learned the best skills he could from George Lucas to continue telling the story he would like to see. Not everything Filoni does is what fans enjoy, but it’s clear that the director/writer has something big planned for Star Wars.

Pedro Pascal’s The Mandalorian and Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka have been building towards one thing. It’s a movie with Lar Mikkelsen’s Grand Admiral Thrawn as the big bad. While the New Republic falls after the First Order as seen in the Sequel Trilogy, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have been building a new story told in between the two movie trilogy on television, and all the events will culminate in Dave Filoni’s new Star Wars movie.

The only problem is that Ahsoka Season 1 doesn’t perfectly set up the movie. Spoilers aside, it’s clear that Filoni has more stories to tell before he embarks on his quest to tell the story fans will see on the big screen. If you haven’t watched Ahsoka just yet, this would be the time to check out the series before having some major details spoiled.

For those who did watch the finale, it’s clear that while Thrawn is back in the main galaxy regrouping assets on Dathomir, while the New Republic will be preparing their defenses after getting Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) back. The problem is that Ahsoka and Sabine are now stuck on Peridea with Baylan, searching for a mysterious power related to the Mortis Gods. If a movie were created after these events, the first half would have to bring all the characters into the same place just to fight Thrawn.

If that happens, it would be messy and mess up one essential detail that the Ahsoka season finale teases. Season 2. A second season would really help set the stage for the upcoming movie while also exploring the mythical elements that Thrawn and the Great Mothers left behind. The Mortis Gods are powerful entities that almost threw the entire universe out of order after The Son turned Anakin Skywalker evil. Things were fixed, but the gods are now dead, leaving some to question what Baylan Skoll is after.

One potential theory is that Abeloth is what Baylan will find, and after he releases her, the galaxy will face a threat unlike anything else. According to Star Wars Legends, She was The Mother of the Mortis gods but became immortal after drinking from the Font of Power and bathing in the Pool of Knowledge, which granted her immense powers. She was imprisoned due to these powers, but she will be nearly unstoppable if she escapes.

There’s only one problem with Baylan finding Abeloth. Ray Stevenson can’t continue his role. After tragically passing away a few weeks before the debut of Ahsoka, Filoni is in a tough spot. Fans loved Stevenson as the compelling Dark Jedi, but the actor can’t continue his role despite Filoni writing him as an essential character for Season 2. What will they do?

If they want to make Season 2 and explain Baylan’s story more, the best option forward is to recast Ray Stevenson and hope the next Star Wars actor can live up to what fans expect. It won’t be easy, and it’s not something Star Wars has really done. Hopefully, Ahsoka Season 2 will be greenlit because fans are waiting to see what Thrawn does next, but there is too much happening for fans to expect the Mandoverse movie to tie up everything neatly.
