It may have been four years since the global smash Avengers: Endgame (2019) dropped into movie theaters everywhere, but Marvel has just decided to remake the movie’s most controversial scene.

Directed by the Russo Brothers (Anthony Russo and Joe Russo), Avengers: Endgame was the highest-grossing movie of all time. Well, it was until Avatar‘s (2009) re-release usurped it to reclaim its title. The sequel to Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and the culmination of over a decade’s worth of storytelling became the superhero event of the year, netting close to $3 billion at the global box office.
The Phase Three Marvel movie saw the entire cast of characters assemble for one last battle against Thanos (Josh Brolin). It was also the exit for Marvel Cinematic Universe heavyweights Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, who played Tony Stark/Iron Man and Steve Rogers/Captain America, respectively.

Four years on from Avengers: Endgame, the MCU — and the superhero genre as a whole — is a far different arena. Plagued with claims of superhero fatigue, with its last movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), posting the worst overall result in all areas for the MCU, Marvel Studios is fighting the pressure of keeping audiences engaged.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) provided respite from the worry that Marvel films were dead in the water as James Gunn managed to refresh the franchise with his trademark humor and heart.

That said, many fans still believe that Avengers: Endgame should have been the end of the MCU as a franchise, even though Jon Watts’ Spider-Man movies, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), have been hits both critically and commercially for Kevin Feige’s live-action Marvel universe.
Avengers: Endgame had everything from heartfelt camaraderie to stunning action sequences, even its own all-female sequence.
Even its own controversial all-female sequence…

During the last big hurrah against Thanos and his legions of warriors, every known hero that audiences have encountered thus far in the MCU reappeared thanks to Bruce Banner/Hulk’s (Mark Ruffalo) activation of the Infinity Stones. Throughout the fight, we see various characters in states of action. After Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) gets attacked while carrying Thanos’s gauntlet, Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) is on hand to take over — as are other female heroes like Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson).
In theory, the celebration of female superheroes in a very over-saturated male genre, at least on the big screen, is a huge moment. But in hindsight, the scene has been deemed a controversial and pandering one that only seeks to put a group of women in a single frame and say, “Wow, there you go, you’ve had your fill of the female superhero now.”

Over time, more complaints about the scene have come around. From its pandering to its confusing nature (some have acknowledged that Captain Marvel, just five minutes ago, blasted through an entire spacecraft and yet needs help to travel over the battlefield), the all-female scene in Avengers: Endgame is a controversial one.
And Marvel just remade it.
With the help of Lego.

Lego is releasing a remake of the controversial all-female Avengers scene. The Lego set will retail for $99.99 and will feature 794 pieces. The company says this of the new merchandise (via The Direct):
“Kids join an iconic cast in a playset packed with innovative features and movie-accurate details. 7 characters are included – Captain Marvel, Okoye, Wanda Maximoff, Shuri, Valkyrie, Thanos and The Wasp.”
“The action takes place among the ruins of the Avengers’ compound. The authentically detailed battleground contains lots of places to attach the minifigures, plus hidden surprises for kids to discover: Captain America’s shield, Thor’s hammer, the time stone and the portal-opening rat.”
The Lego set is slated for an August 1st release.

There is the notion that this scene in the film spawned so many of the ideas that fans saw come to fruition in Marvel Phase Four. Movies centering on female voices like Black Widow (2021) and TV shows such as WandaVision, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law all brought women superheroes to the forefront. There are also rumors that Marvel will eventually debut an A-Force team within the MCU.
A-Force is an all-female team of Avengers that debuted in 2015 as part of the “Secret Wars” Marvel Comics crossover storyline. And what is releasing in three years’ time? Avengers: Secret Wars (2026)…
