If you’ve been paying attention to the Star Wars Day celebrations at the Lucasfilm showcase, you’ll know that the galaxy far, far away has just received two massive developments. While most fans are understandably excited about the arrival of the upcoming Ahsoka series, the biggest reveal was something we’ve been predicting all along.
Not only are fans going to be getting a whole new set of series, including one with Daisy Ridley returning as Rey, but they’ve also been promised not one but two new full-length Star Wars films. One of the announced projects is set during the New Republic, and they couldn’t be in better hands as Dave Filoni steps up to head the film.
Dave Filoni to Direct His Own Star Wars Film

Of all the gifted creative minds to take the director’s chair in the Star Wars universe, none have as much love and admiration for the series as Dave Filoni. Known as the mind behind Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Bad Batch, The Mandalorian, and more, Filoni has done more than enough to prove he is worthy of directing a full-length feature film.

Filoni’s creations from both the animated universe and the world of Din Djarin have seamlessly blended into the core Star Wars canon. With so many appearances from characters like Ahsoka Tano, Chopper, and Bo-Katan, he’s had his cast ready to go for the longest time.
The Next Chapter

According to the official Star Wars blog , the project is described as follows,
“Dave Filoni’s will focus on the New Republic, and close out the interconnected stories told in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series.”
Inside the Magic recently predicted that Filoni’s contribution to Star Wars legends and lore were consistently making the evolution from animated characters to live-action cameos, and that the only place to go was a full-on live-action film. Although we too are excited for Ahsoka’s next adventure and the thrilling conclusion of the Mando-Verse, we can’t wait to see what Filoni has in store for the New Republic.

The main thing we’re overjoyed to hear is that Dave Filoni’s time, effort, and dedication to a universe beloved by generations of fans is finally paying off. All though it might be too soon to tell, we’re hoping that the upcoming adaptation gives the galaxy a new lust for life with the mature and emotional storytelling for which the director is known.
